Youghal Pigeon Club
The members of Youghal Pigeon club decided to hold pigeon shows over
the winter months as there is no racing at this time of year, members
would meet, show their birds and have a chat in the club house.
A series of 5 shows were held with a total of 300 birds taking part over
the 5 weeks. The judging of the birds was carried out by fanciers from
Cork and Waterford, all reporting a very high standard in Youghal.
The overall winner of the shows was Paddy Aherne, winning 2 firsts and
a third. Paddy has kept pigeons all of his life and is well known throughout
the country with several national and Munster titles to his name. In
second place was Timmy Fitzgerald also winning 2 firsts and a fourth
place, followed by Paddy and Angela Kelly in third.
The money raised from entering the birds was donated by the club to
Youghal Hospice.
U8 and U10
Our U8 and U10 training began last Thursday evening in the GAA clubhouse.
It was a great start to the season with great enthusiasm and great
fun. U8 training is from 5pm-5:45pm and U10 training takes place from
6pm-6:45pm each Thursday evening. All new players welcome.
U14
Inch Rovers U14A played their third round game of the league against
Bride Rovers last week. Weather conditions made for tough playing conditions.
Inch started off very strongly and had the upper hand at half time
on a scoreline of Inch 3-4 Bride Rovers 2-4. We had the wind at our backs
in the second half but Bride Rovers never gave up and brought it to within
one point with five minutes to go. The girls determination however saw
us finish out winners on a scoreline of 5-7 to 4-5. Great win for the girls.
Our next league game is scheduled for March 10th against Rockban.
U16
Under 16 training continues weekly. Thanks to Ballyphehane for a challenge
match on the 15th of February it was a great start for the season
ahead. An enjoyable match which gave all the girls a chance to play. The
under 16's will play the first league match against fermoy next weekend.
Junior/Senior
Training continues each Tuesday and Friday evening at 7:30pm. First
round of junior and senior leagues begin March 19th. All new members
welcome.
