Programs for Kindergarten to Grade 12

School District No. 67 invites international students to
study in our safe and welcoming schools in one of the most
attractive locations to live in British Columbia – the beautiful
South Okanagan. Our schools provide high-quality academic and
elective programming, resulting in one of the highest graduation
rates in British Columbia. Our schools offer:
• Modern, well-equipped classrooms, science labs, libraries,
art studios, trade shops, culinary facilities and gymnasiums,
which all have wireless access.
• An exciting selection of academic and elective courses,
including Advanced Placement courses, trades training and
award-winning performing and visual arts programs.
• A low ratio of international students, giving students a
great opportunity to experience Canadian culture and to
speak and learn English.
• A full range of enriching extracurricular activities, such as
athletics, school clubs, and student leadership activities.

Programs Offered
Elementary & Middle School Programs (Grades K to 8) •
International students are immersed with Canadian students
and ESL is provided as required. Students aged 11 and older may
apply for our homestay program. Younger students are required
to live with a parent or relative for their entire program.
Secondary Culture Program (Grades 9 to 12) • Students
take a regular school program and are immersed in Canadian
classrooms to learn English and experience Canadian culture. ESL
is provided as required. Students may apply for our Homestay
Program.
Secondary Graduation Program (Grades 9 to 12) •
Students who successfully complete this program will receive
the world-recognized Dogwood Certificate. ESL is provided as
required. Students may apply for our Homestay Program.
Winter Short-Term Program • Students are immersed in
regular classrooms and are provided up to 50% ESL (based on
English ability). Group programs with activities are available. A
short-term Homestay Program is provided.
Summer Short-Term Program • Students learn English and
Canadian culture in morning classes and participate in summer
activities in the afternoon. Activities include swimming, boating,
waterslides, cycling, hiking, rock climbing and cultural tours. A
short-term Homestay Program is provided.
Princess Margaret Soccer Academy • The Soccer Centre
is an elite soccer specific training program based at Princess
Margaret Secondary and the SOYSA Adidas Indoor Sportsplex.
The program offers outstanding technical soccer instruction and
skill training. The instructor is a former varsity university player,
NCCP certified and a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Teaching
Excellence Award.

Application Process
Step 1: Complete the application documentation, which is
available on the School District No. 67 website:
www.sd67.bc.ca/international.asp
Applications should be scanned and submitted by email to:
InternationalEd@summer.com
Step 2: Pay the application fee by money order or bank wire
transfer.
Step 3: Submit application documentation including:
• Completed Request for Admission of Student form
• Copy of the student passport
• Certified transcripts of school records in English
• Completed Student Application for Homestay form
(if applying for homestay)
• Signed Participation Guidelines
• TOEFL, IELTS or other English test results if available
Step 4: Upon acceptance, scanned copies of the Letter of
Acceptance, custodianship forms and invoice will be emailed to
the applicant for proofing. Once the documents are confirmed
correct, the applicant is to send a confirmation email. Original
documents will be sent by courier once fees are received.
Step 5: School District staff will provide bank wire transfer
information. When completing a wire transfer, ensure the student
name is on the bank wire details. Email a scanned copy of the wire
transfer document as soon as possible after the wire transfer is sent.
Step 6: Student applies for study permit and/or appropriate
Citizenship and Immigration Canada documents to travel to
Canada. Your length of program will determine the documentation
that you will require. Please note that British Columbia Medical
Insurance is a mandatory requirement for all international students.

Activities
School Activities • Sports: volleyball, soccer, basketball,
rugby, badminton, golf, field hockey. Clubs: international,
leadership, yearbook, fitness/weights, rock climbing. The arts:
music, theatre, visual arts.
Community Activities • Sports: soccer, softball, baseball,
curling, hockey, figure skating, snowshoeing, swimming, tennis,
golf, kayaking, fitness centres, flag football, rock climbing,
hiking, cycling. Dance: all types; Music: most instruments and
vocals; Martial Arts: all types.
Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding & Cross-Country Skiing •
Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton is one of the hidden gems
of Canadian skiing. Apex is a full service destination with great
weather, incredible terrain and the lightest champagne powder
imaginable.
International Student Activities • Shopping trips, live
theatre, hockey games, bowling, snow sports, water sports,
skating, bowling, sightseeing trips.

Winter and Summer Short-Term Program: as negotiated
English Proficiency Requirements
International students can be accepted into our district with
beginner to expert English proficiency. Each student receives
an English language assessment and will be placed in an
appropriate level of ESL training, enabling students to develop
and experience English with confidence.
Living Options
Students can reside in either:
• Our homestay program with a host family selected,
screened and approved by School District No. 67.
All students will be matched to a Canadian family
to ensure they have a quality homestay experience.
• A home selected by the parents (private arrangements
with friends or family).

Princess Margaret Secondary School

Princess Margaret is an active school with strong academic,
athletic, fine arts and leadership traditions involving students
from all grades and backgrounds. The school has a diverse
student population and prides itself on having a culture of
acceptance, excellence and inclusion.
Summerland Secondary School

Summerland Secondary is a dual-track school offering strong
academic programs in both English and French. The school,
located in the picturesque town of Summerland, is proud of
its positive school culture and offers a wide variety of courses
across many disciplines. Students are also actively involved in
extra-curricular activities such as robotics, gardening, theatre
and a full slate of athletics.
Our Middle Schools
Grades 6 to 8 Average Class Size: 25
Our middle school philosophy is one of inclusion, community, growth and exploration. We
believe all students can learn and contribute to their school, local and global communities.
Our staff seeks to give students challenging and empowering learning opportunities both
inside and outside of the classroom. Students have a variety of options for academic
subjects, applied skills, fine arts, extracurricular activities & field trips. Each school offers
a variety of unique opportunities for international students to take part in!

Penticton & Area
School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) is located in the
sunny interior of British Columbia, in the region known as
the Okanagan Valley. The district includes the communities
of Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, West Bench and Kaleden,
which are situated between two sparkling fresh water lakes,
lush orchards, and majestic mountains. Surrounded by world
class recreational opportunities and sensational scenery,
the communities are well known for their beautiful weather,
numerous beaches and healthy lifestyle.
According to Environment Canada, the Penticton area has the
most attractive climate of all Canadian cities with over 2,100
hours of sunshine and only 33 centimetres of rain annually. This
area has a comfortable climate year round with hot, dry summers
and is one of the few places in Canada with short, mild winters.
Penticton and area is a highly desirable place to live as it
offers a wide array of sport tourism and outdoor adventure
opportunities. Enjoy skiing or snowboarding at Apex Mountain
Ski Resort, rock climbing at the Skaha Bluffs, mountain biking
along the Kettle Valley Trail, swimming at the beach, floating
down the river channel, kayaking, hiking, fishing and golfing
at one of the 28 golf courses in the local area – the area offers
endless hours of outdoor fun.
Recreational activities in modern facilities include an indoor pool
with water slide and wave pool, ice arenas, curling rinks, dance
studios, local live theatres and an indoor soccer facility.
A mixture of festivals, local markets, cultural institutions and

The area is a leading tourist destination in Canada and one of
the most desirable places to live.
The city of Penticton is easily accessible to the city of Vancouver,
which is 45 minutes by air from Penticton Airport to Vancouver
Airport or a 4.5 hour drive by car.
The Penticton area has a population of 60,000 people with all
the amenities of a larger city, but the friendliness and safety
of a smaller community. The communities are primarily English
speaking and offer diverse activities for those who enjoy the
outdoors.
