Electrical Connection Batteries should be placed inside buildings which are dry and at a constant temperature. Choose a suitable place to install the batteries, inverter and controller. Connect the batteries in series. Connect the anode of first battery to cathode of the second one to create a series. Grease the joints well. Install the fuse on the positive electrode of the battery. The distance of conducting wire between batteries and controller should be less than 3m. Please refer to suggested battery capacity for various models (as shown above) It is advised to install a ‘kill switch’ for use in case of emergency shut down requirement (severe storm condition for example) Wiring options – off grid battery charging configuration Note. All the models can be used in an on-grid environment, but only with adherence to local regulations. An on-grid controller and inverter need to be purchased additionally.
Wiring options – Island grid battery charging configuration The Idea The Sunny Island is connected to a battery bank and defines the AC grid by controlling voltage and frequency on the AC side. All components of your off‐grid system are connected to this AC bus. These can be electricity consumers as well as well as electricity sources (such as Sunny Boy PV‐inverters). In periods with a high energy yield (e.g. daytime with high insolaration and low electricity demand on the consumer side) the Sunny Island extracts AC power from the bus and charges the battery. In periods with high electricity demand (e.g. night time and higher electricity demand on the consumer side) the Sunny Island takes energy out of the battery and feeds it to the AC bus. Flexible Nearly any kind of electricity generator can be integrated into your Sunny Island off‐grid electricity supply: Photovoltaic plants with Sunny Boy inverters, wind energy plants with Windy Boy inverters from SMA, water turbines and even diesel generators that are automatically activated when the state of charge of the connected batteries run low. Off‐grid electricity supply systems based on Sunny Island can easily be extended and modified due to its stackability. Powerful Off‐grid systems with Sunny Islands are powerful for two reasons: The coupling of the components on the AC side results in an adding up of all energy sources. A high solar radiation results in a high output of your Sunny Boy inverters while this energy is additionally available to the power your Sunny Island can deliver. This increases the total power of your plant.
