Single Bin
Recycling
Leading the Way
The City of Stirling uses a single bin
recycling system making the City one
of the leading recyclers in Australia.
A minimum of 65% of the single bin
contents processed at the Resource
Recovery Facility is recycled.
Recyclables do not need to be
separated – we do it for you!
Simply place all household waste in
your single bin, which is collected
weekly. Your plastic bottles, glass,
aluminium and steel cans are
recovered and recycled. Organic
materials such as food, garden
waste and paper products are
recovered and recycled by
composting.
When our bins are emptied, do you
really know where the waste goes and
what happens with it? The City has
produced a DVD “Amazing Journey”
to explain the Single Bin Recycling
Process. To view go to the City of
Stirling Youtube channel
How to maximise recycling
Empty contents and remove lids from
containers
Wrap food scraps in newspaper
Open, unfold and flatten cardboard
boxes to save space
Place plastic bags loosely into the bin
Please do not put the
following into your single bin
û Hot ashes
û Construction or building material
û Liquids
û Gas bottles
û Engine parts
û Household hazardous waste
û Car/household batteries
û Motor oil
û Fluorescent tubes/lamps
û Paints and chemicals
û Medicine – take these to your local
chemist
Collection Guidelines
Please place your bin on the verge by
6.00am on collection day with wheels
facing away from the kerb.
Please ensure that your bin is 1 metre
away from obstructions and other bins.
Your bin cannot be emptied if
• It is too heavy (maximum weight is
70kg)
• It is too close to obstructions
including other bins
• It is overflowing (lid cannot close)
• Waste is stuck inside (do not
compact)
• Access to the bin is restricted
To avoid spillage during collection:
• Place vacuum cleaner dust and
other dust in a bag
• Place grass clippings in the middle
of your bin
Public Holidays
City of Stirling weekly rubbish collections
which fall on Christmas Day, New Years
Day and Good Friday and the days
of the week that follow, will take place
one day later than usual. For example,
Friday’s collection will take place on
Saturday. Balcatta Recycling Centre will
be closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s
Ideas to Recycle and
Reduce Waste
Worm Farms
Reduce your organic waste by starting
a worm farm. Not only will the worms
eat organic household scraps but
you can also reap the benefits of a
high grade ‘fertiliser’ provided by the
worms.
Free workshops where residents can
learn to operate a worm farm are run
by the City. Workshops are conducted
by a vermiculture expert.
Bookings are essential. For
more information visit
www.stirling.wa.gov.au/worms or
contact the City on 9205 8555.
The City offers its schools subsidies
towards Worm Farming seminars.
Closing the Loop on
Doggy Poop!
Recycle your dog’s waste and reuse
the end product to benefit your
garden. The Doggy Do dispenser
is a very simple worm farm to place
directly in your garden.
Dispensers can be purchased in two
sizes (the size required depends on
the size or number of dogs you have):
• Small (made from recycled
120L wheelie bins) $10.00
• Large (made from recycled
240L wheelie bins) $15.00
To purchase a Doggy Do Dispenser,
please contact the City on 9205 8555.
