Bacterial Vaginosis<br />

• Common condition in women of child<br />

bearing age<br />

• Associated with Gardnerella vaginalis &<br />

Mobiluncus species, as well as pH > 4.5<br />

• Clinical picture:<br />

– Vaginal discharge that has a fishy odor<br />

– Presence of vaginal epithelial cells (“clue<br />

cells”) confirms the diagnosis<br />

• Rx: clindamycin or metronidazole
