Anaerobic Infections

Aerobes
• Bacteria that can replicate only in the
presence of O 2 (which is the terminal
electron acceptor during respiration)
• Examples:
– Mycobacterium tuberculosis
– Pseudomonas species thrive in
oxygen (but they’re not technically
strict aerobes because they can
use nitrate as the final acceptor)
