Aerobes<br />
• Bacteria that can replicate only in the<br />
presence of O 2 (which is the terminal<br />
electron acceptor during respiration)<br />
• Examples:<br />
– Mycobacterium tuberculosis<br />
– Pseudomonas species thrive in<br />
oxygen (but they’re not technically<br />
strict aerobes because they can<br />
use nitrate as the final acceptor)
