CLASS NOTES<br />
1950-1959<br />
Hideko Kaji (PhD 1958) was elected<br />
as an American Association for the<br />
Advancement <strong>of</strong> Science (AAAS) Fellow<br />
in February <strong>2012</strong>. He was honored for<br />
his distinguished contributions to<br />
biology by discovering specific tRNA<br />
binding to mRNA-ribosome complexes,<br />
N-terminal protein modification by<br />
arginine, and ribosome recycling,<br />
the last step <strong>of</strong> protein synthesis.<br />
1960-1969<br />
Gary Dominy (BS 1968) <strong>of</strong> South<br />
Bend, IN, retired after 43 years from<br />
the Hook Drug Company and all its<br />
successor companies.<br />
Joel Heeg (BS 1966; MS 1970 and<br />
PhD 1974, Health Sciences) was<br />
awarded the 2011 Annual Society<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hospital Pharmacists <strong>of</strong> Australia<br />
Achievement Award. This award<br />
recognizes a Western Australian<br />
pharmacist who has made significant<br />
contributions to the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong><br />
pharmacy, particularly in a hospital<br />
setting. He is the executive <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
for the department <strong>of</strong> pharmacy at<br />
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and<br />
a member <strong>of</strong> the Western Australia<br />
Drug Evaluation Panel.<br />
Wayne Richey (BS 1963) shares<br />
that it has now been 20 years since<br />
he retired from the US Air Force<br />
after a 28 year career. He now only<br />
works about 30 hours a week as a<br />
pharmacist. He and his wife, Marcia,<br />
enjoy traveling when not working.<br />
They both have been to all 50 states<br />
and are now expanding their list <strong>of</strong><br />
international countries. Their doors<br />
are always open for visitors passing<br />
through Texas.<br />
1970-1979<br />
Anne Eggers (BS 1974, MS 1976)<br />
<strong>of</strong> Olney, MD was surprised to learn<br />
that one <strong>of</strong> her <strong>of</strong> co-workers at<br />
Montgomery General Hospital is a<br />
graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>Purdue</strong>! Anne, along with<br />
Mary Cox (BS 2005, Nursing), take<br />
time to show their black and gold on<br />
weekends while their husbands cheer<br />
for <strong>Purdue</strong> from the home fronts.<br />
Jane Krause (BS 1981) was excited<br />
to reconnect with fellow pharmacy<br />
alumnae and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority<br />
sister Marcia Manly (BS 1979) on<br />
November 11, 2011. Marcia and<br />
her husband, David (MS 1979,<br />
Management) visited <strong>Purdue</strong> to meet<br />
with current pharmacy students.<br />
In December 2011, the American<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> Pharmaceutical<br />
Scientists (AAPS) named Robert<br />
Lipper (BS 1973) the coeditor <strong>of</strong><br />
the AAPS Advances in the<br />
Pharmaceutical Sciences Series.<br />
He will team up with AAPS and<br />
its publishing partner to propose<br />
new volumes and authors to develop<br />
the series. AAPS states that the<br />
book series is “designed to deliver<br />
well written volumes authored by<br />
opinion leaders and authoritarians<br />
from around the globe, addressing<br />
innovations in drug research and<br />
development, and best practice for<br />
scientists and industry pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />
in the pharmaceutical and<br />
biotechnology industries.”<br />
1980-1989<br />
In October 2011, Kerry Pickworth<br />
(BS 1984, PharmD 1985) was inducted<br />
as a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the American <strong>College</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Clinical <strong>Pharmacy</strong> (ACCP). She<br />
was previously promoted to Associate<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Clinical <strong>Pharmacy</strong> at<br />
The Ohio State University <strong>College</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Pharmacy</strong> in 2009.<br />
Anthony Zmirski (BS 1983) passed<br />
his Board Certification in Nutritional<br />
Support (BCNSP) as well as the exam<br />
administered by the NCBDE (National<br />
Certification Board for Diabetes<br />
Educators) to become a Certified<br />
Diabetes Educator (CDE). He also met<br />
the requirements to become a Fellow<br />
<strong>of</strong> the American Society <strong>of</strong> Consultant<br />
Pharmacists (FASCP). Tony is a Team<br />
Care Manager at Memorial Hospital/<br />
Beacon Health System <strong>of</strong> South Bend.<br />
