• Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Review (Enterprise Connect): Experienced,<br />
<strong>in</strong>dependent Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Advisers conduct a<br />
comprehensive analysis <strong>of</strong> the bus<strong>in</strong>ess’ strengths,<br />
weaknesses and bus<strong>in</strong>ess environment. Delivered at no<br />
charge to the bus<strong>in</strong>ess, the Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Review provides<br />
specific recommendations for improvement. A Tailored<br />
Advisory Services grant <strong>of</strong> up to $20,000 <strong>in</strong> matched<br />
fund<strong>in</strong>g is available to enable bus<strong>in</strong>esses to implement<br />
recommendations from the Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Review.<br />
• Cont<strong>in</strong>uous Improvement Program (Enterprise<br />
Connect): This is a two year engagement that follows<br />
on from an <strong>in</strong>itial Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Review, to accelerate<br />
the competitiveness and raise the performance <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual Australian companies through a process<br />
<strong>of</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>uous improvement across the entire range<br />
<strong>of</strong> its bus<strong>in</strong>ess activity. The program <strong>in</strong>corporates the<br />
measurement <strong>of</strong> critical bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong>formation that<br />
will be the foundation <strong>of</strong> the cont<strong>in</strong>uous improvement<br />
process with the ability to measure the outcomes<br />
and achievements. It is a facilitated process, with the<br />
Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adviser and key people <strong>in</strong> the firm work<strong>in</strong>g<br />
together to identify changes that may <strong>in</strong>crease the<br />
firm’s productivity and competitiveness.<br />
• Workshops, Industry Intelligence & Network<strong>in</strong>g<br />
(Enterprise Connect): Provides access to sem<strong>in</strong>ars,<br />
workshops, events and network<strong>in</strong>g opportunities<br />
cover<strong>in</strong>g a range <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustries and themes.<br />
• Commercialisation Australia: A competitive, meritbased<br />
assistance program <strong>of</strong>fer<strong>in</strong>g fund<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
resources to accelerate the bus<strong>in</strong>ess build<strong>in</strong>g process<br />
for Australian companies, entrepreneurs, researchers<br />
and <strong>in</strong>ventors seek<strong>in</strong>g to commercialise new<br />
<strong>in</strong>tellectual property.<br />
• Clean Technology Investment Program (AusIndustry):<br />
Provides assistance to Australian manufacturers<br />
through competitive grants for <strong>in</strong>vestment <strong>in</strong> energy<br />
efficient capital equipment and low emissions<br />
technologies, processes and products. The grants will<br />
help Australian manufacturers ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and improve<br />
their competitiveness <strong>in</strong> a low carbon economy.<br />

Austrade adm<strong>in</strong>ister the Export Market Development Grant<br />
(EMDG) scheme – the Australian Government’s f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
assistance program for aspir<strong>in</strong>g and current exporters.<br />
• Export F<strong>in</strong>ance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC):<br />
Provides f<strong>in</strong>ance solutions for viable export and<br />
onshore export-related deals to help Australian<br />
companies overcome f<strong>in</strong>ancial barriers. As the<br />
Australian Government’s export credit agency, EFIC<br />
assist bus<strong>in</strong>esses where their bank is unable to provide<br />
all the <strong>support</strong> they need. EFIC <strong>support</strong>s a bus<strong>in</strong>ess’s<br />
opportunity to w<strong>in</strong> work that may otherwise be out <strong>of</strong><br />
reach.<br />
• Tradex Scheme (AusIndustry): An entitlement program<br />
that provides upfront exemption from Customs duty<br />
and GST for eligible imported goods that are to be<br />
subsequently exported. The imported goods may be:<br />

exported <strong>in</strong> the same condition as imported; or<br />
subjected to a process or treatment after<br />
importation and then exported; or<br />
<strong>in</strong>corporated <strong>in</strong> other goods after importation then<br />
exported.<br />
Export may be carried out by the importer or a third party.<br />
• Certa<strong>in</strong> Inputs to Manufacture Program (AusIndustry):<br />
Provides duty free entry for certa<strong>in</strong> imported raw<br />
material and <strong>in</strong>termediate goods such as chemical,<br />
plastics or paper goods where it can be demonstrated<br />
that the imported goods provide a substantial<br />
advantage over comparable goods made <strong>in</strong> Australia.

• R&D Tax Incentive (AusIndustry): Provides a<br />
generous targeted tax <strong>of</strong>fset to Australian bus<strong>in</strong>esses<br />
to encourage them to engage <strong>in</strong> research and<br />
development <strong>in</strong> Australia. The <strong>in</strong>centive has two core<br />
components:<br />
−−<br />
45% refundable tax <strong>of</strong>fset (equivalent to a 150%<br />
deduction) to eligible entities with an aggregated<br />
turnover <strong>of</strong> less than $20 million per annum.<br />
−−<br />
a non-refundable 40% tax <strong>of</strong>fset (equivalent to<br />
133% deduction) to all other eligible entities.<br />
• Researchers <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess (Enterprise Connect):<br />
Provides grants <strong>of</strong> up to $50,000 <strong>in</strong> matched fund<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
place a researcher from a university or public research<br />
agency <strong>in</strong>to a bus<strong>in</strong>ess for 2-12 months to develop and<br />
implement a new idea that has commercial potential.<br />
• Clean Technology <strong>Innovation</strong> Program (AusIndustry):<br />
The new $200 million Clean Technology <strong>Innovation</strong><br />
Program provides grants to <strong>in</strong>novative bus<strong>in</strong>esses<br />
to help them develop new clean technologies and<br />
services. It <strong>of</strong>fers grants from $50,000 to $5 million and<br />
will fund up to 50 per cent <strong>of</strong> eligible expenditure <strong>in</strong> a<br />
1:1 basis. Grants are <strong>of</strong>fered on a competitive basis.<br />

the resources sector?<br />
• Resources Sector Supplier Advocates (Buy Australian<br />
at Home and Abroad): Supplier Advocates work at a<br />
sector level with bus<strong>in</strong>ess suppliers <strong>in</strong> the resources<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry to enhance their capability and capacity to w<strong>in</strong><br />
work. For example, the activities <strong>of</strong> Supplier Advocates<br />
may <strong>in</strong>clude coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for companies<br />
to showcase their capabilities and products and<br />
implement<strong>in</strong>g supply cha<strong>in</strong> development activities.<br />
• Industry Capability Network (ICN): ICN works with<br />
procurement and project managers to help identify<br />
competitive local suppliers. ICN receives fund<strong>in</strong>g from<br />
the Commonwealth, state and territory <strong>government</strong>s,<br />
and has <strong>of</strong>fices throughout Australia and <strong>in</strong> New<br />
Zealand. ICN estimates they have generated more than<br />
$17 billion <strong>in</strong> orders for local companies that otherwise<br />
may have gone overseas. Register<strong>in</strong>g with ICN<br />
Gateway (a comprehensive onl<strong>in</strong>e system <strong>of</strong> project<br />
opportunities and suppliers) is free <strong>of</strong> charge.<br />
• Supply Cha<strong>in</strong> Cont<strong>in</strong>uous Improvement Program<br />
(Enterprise Connect): This is a three year cont<strong>in</strong>uous<br />
improvement program aimed at rais<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
performance <strong>of</strong> an <strong>in</strong>dustry sector by <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the performance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dividual bus<strong>in</strong>esses <strong>in</strong> a<br />
supply cha<strong>in</strong>, this is undertaken on-site by skilled and<br />
experienced Cont<strong>in</strong>uous Improvement Facilitators.<br />
It is targeted at small and medium-sized Australian<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>esses with<strong>in</strong> the Defence, Resource and Rail<br />
sectors. The program uses a number <strong>of</strong> common sense<br />
diagnostic tools to identify areas for improvement<br />
with<strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>esses whilst actively engag<strong>in</strong>g employees<br />
and key customers <strong>in</strong> this journey. These tools are<br />
focused on the follow<strong>in</strong>g outcomes: modernis<strong>in</strong>g<br />
customer and supplier relationships, improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess communications, encourag<strong>in</strong>g greater<br />
efficiency and simplification <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess processes, and<br />
grow<strong>in</strong>g product and process <strong>in</strong>novation.<br />
• Resources Sector Supplier Envoy (Buy Australian at<br />
Home and Abroad): The Resources Sector Supplier<br />
Envoy’s role is to help Australian <strong>in</strong>dustry w<strong>in</strong> more<br />
work <strong>in</strong> major resources projects <strong>in</strong> Australia and<br />
overseas. This is done by promot<strong>in</strong>g the capabilities<br />
and competitiveness <strong>of</strong> Australian <strong>in</strong>dustry (e.g. by<br />
help<strong>in</strong>g Australian <strong>in</strong>dustry access global supply cha<strong>in</strong>s<br />
through trade missions) and provid<strong>in</strong>g feedback and<br />
advice to Government and <strong>in</strong>dustry on opportunities<br />
and strategies for development.<br />
• Australian Industry Participation (AIP) Plans: The<br />
Australian Government has a number <strong>of</strong> programs<br />
that require an AIP Plan. An AIP Plan outl<strong>in</strong>es the<br />
actions an organisation <strong>in</strong>tends to take to provide<br />
full, fair and reasonable opportunity for Australian<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry, especially smaller firms, to be <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the<br />
supply <strong>of</strong> goods and services to a project. AIP Plans<br />
also encourage long term <strong>in</strong>dustry development by<br />
undertak<strong>in</strong>g steps to assist Australian <strong>in</strong>dustry to<br />
develop capabilities, become more competitive, and<br />
<strong>support</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration <strong>in</strong>to global supply cha<strong>in</strong>s.<br />
