as adhesive or coating material. At the Bomlitz site in the Industrial
Park Walsrode, Dow Wolff Cellulosics manufactures products
from the renewable, natural raw material of cellulose which help
reduce overweight, diabetes and allergies, make vegetarian foods
more attractive and ensure precise dosage of agents in medicaments.
For example, through the use of Dow additives, the fat
content in foodstuffs can be reduced by up to 50 percent without
the texture and mouth feeling suffering. Reduced-fat cakes and
crackers benefit from this technology as do meat and German-style
sausage products. Dow’s cellulose products are also very effective
in the pharmaceutical sector as they enable medicaments to release
their agent only gradually after taking them. About 100 chemists,
lab technicians and process engineers from across the world work in
the Research and Development Centre in Bomlitz on new innovative
products which make everyday life easier.
Chemistry is life
Fascinating, colourful, diverse – chemistry is one of the
most fascinating sciences and industries. Through its
innovative products chemistry changes our lives and
makes our daily routines easier. And what’s more, it is
biochemical processes that make life itself possible at all.
Also located in the Industrial Park Walsrode is Epurex Films,
a subsidiary of Bayer MaterialScience. The specialist in technical,
high-performance films has specialised for over 25 years in the
development, manufacture and distribution of high-grade polyurethane
films, breathable membranes and high-performance hot melt adhesive
films. The application areas of the films are virtually limitless
and include the automotive and medical sectors, the construction
industry and the textile and leisure sectors. For instance breathable
membrane films make functional clothing water-repellent but also
water-vapour permeable - perfect for wind and weather. Polyurethane
films also ensure that roller blinds are opaque and impervious
to light and also that car seats can withstand high stresses due to
their high elasticity and tear resistance properties. Special films from
Niedersachsen can be found again and again in kite surf sails, plasters,
stucco mouldings, safety glass and bullet-proof vests – always
invisible but with an essential function.
CaseTech is all about sausages. The company in the Industrial
Park Walsrode is one of the few companies worldwide which produces
both coated and uncoated cellulose fibrous casings and also plastic
casings in its product portfolio. Produced under the brand name
“Walsroder” CaseTech has been producing, printing and finishing
in Bomlitz since 1928. Managing Director Jens Roesler says, “Every
sausage casing manufactured by CaseTech offers users a product
that is totally customised for the production of his products and
they are perfect solutions for excellent end-products, be they meat,
sausage or cheese.” About 80 percent of all goods are exported to
over 72 countries. According to Gerrit Lieske, Head of the Industrial
