<strong>Karnataka</strong> Agicultural <strong>Policy</strong> 2006<br />
Minister Sri.Devegowda, whose genuine interest in agriculture development hardly<br />
needs any emphasis. The National Commission on Farmers has submitted five reports<br />
to the government of India. In order to discuss the implications of these reports <strong>for</strong> the<br />
State, five sub-committees were <strong>for</strong>med by the State Government under experts like<br />
Dr.R.Dwarkinath, <strong>for</strong>mer Vice Chancellor, Dr.M..N Sheelavanthar, Vice Chancellor,<br />
University of <strong>Agricultural</strong> Sciences, Bangalore, Dr.S A Patil, Director, ICRI, New<br />
Delhi, Dr.R.N.Srinivasa Gowda, Vice Chancellor, <strong>Karnataka</strong> Veterinary, Animal,<br />
Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Dr.Vasanth Kumar, Director, Horticulture,<br />
Government of <strong>Karnataka</strong>, Bangalore, Captain Raja Rao, <strong>for</strong>mer Secretary, Department<br />
of Irrigation, Sri.D B Gore, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Bangalore <strong>and</strong><br />
Professor, R S Deshp<strong>and</strong>e, <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Economic</strong> Change, Bangalore.<br />
Dr.Swaminathan appreciated the proactive approach of the State Government <strong>and</strong> the<br />
fact that <strong>Karnataka</strong> was the first State not only to constitute the Commitees but also to<br />
make a detailed presentation be<strong>for</strong>e the National Commission on Farmers. The inputs<br />
that have come from these Sub-Committees have been used <strong>for</strong> preparing the present<br />
<strong>Policy</strong> document.<br />
I would like to express my gratitude to all the Farmers, Administrators, <strong>Social</strong><br />
Scientists, <strong>Social</strong> Activists, <strong>Agricultural</strong> Scientists, elected representatives <strong>and</strong> the Core<br />
Group, who spared their valuable time to prepare this document.<br />
