‘I love Middle
PLUS!
An updated 25-page guide
to Dubai’s best shops
Welcome
to Style…
hat would one normally expect
from a unisex style magazine in
Dubai? Purely designer one-off
W pieces? Only fantastically expensive
cars and jewellery? Yachts – but only of the ‘super’
kind – beside pages of bejewelled stilettos, and
perhaps a golden skyscraper or two?
But team Style is here to offer you the unexpected.
The following 112 pages reflect the high-end and
aspirational, yes – but we’ve also included a plethora
of very different, creative, quirky and affordable
looks. Our home city may be world-renowned for its
opulence, yet there’s another side to it too: a side that
isn’t afraid to be led purely by its own taste, even if it
doesn’t include a triple-zero price tag.
That’s not to say we don’t adore the high-end.
We just pick out what deserves to be in fashion’s
lofty heights, rather than pandering to the pieces we
believe don’t belong there. Take Donatella Versace.
She admits in our interview on page 22 that she ‘lost
her discipline for a while’ after Gianni was snatched from
the world in the ’90s, but that she and her label are now
truly in their prime. Or take a look at DIFC (page 20): an
area that’s fast becoming the city’s ultimate style centre,
not because of the amount of monetary clout it has
( a lot), but because of the fantastically good taste it
demonstrates in its restaurants and galleries.
With every issue we’ll continue to show the
world that Dubai boasts plenty of elegance and
flair, until it becomes commonly accepted –
and then we’ll find more ways to surprise,
rouse and inspire you. After all, isn’t that
what style is all about?
Ayesha Akhlaq, perfume expert
fragrances to wear in which situations
‘I’d suggest a light, fresh fragrance
that isn’t overpowering, but will inspire
confidence and make the wearer feel
good. An uplifting citrus floral would
be ideal to keep the wearer calm and
relaxed. Bright, energising scents
MODEL/BLOGGER, SPOTTED
IN DUBAI MARINA
What autumn/winter 2012
trend are you wearing?
I’m wearing the spikes trend.
This vintage denim Levi’s jacket
has been revamped with spike
detailing by The Ragged Priest and
I paired it with a neon bodice from
LF Boutique in SoHo, New York.
The leggings are from American
Apparel, the bag is Zara and the
shoes are Jeffrey Campbell.
How have you made it yours?
Wearing the jacket oversized makes
it look more grunge and vintage,
and I added bright neon to give it
a bit more of a wow factor.
Where’s the best place to wear
this trend in Dubai?
Seeing as I’m only 15, I would wear
this to house parties in Dubai.
Other favourite autumn/winter
2012 trends?
I’m all about the peplum trend, with
gathered, flared fabric at the waist.
I have loads of clothes in that style
at the moment.
Favourite Dubai boutique?
I adore West LA Boutique, because
it stocks brands you can’t find
anywhere in Dubai. Once you make
your first purchase you will always
go running back for more, trust me!
Your top Dubai shopping tip?
Splurge on pieces you know you’ll
wear forever.
