3. Good practice guidelines<br />
3.9.11 Where refugee movement <strong>and</strong> concentration occurs in border regions, take<br />
steps to prevent or mitigate environmental damage to TBPAs by making<br />
TBPA personnel <strong>and</strong> humanitarian agencies aware of the UNHCR<br />
Guidelines on Prevention of Environmental Impacts Related to Refugees<br />
Operations (UNHCR, 1996). Ensure that such guidelines are followed to the<br />
extent possible.<br />
3.9.12 <strong>Co</strong>-operate with humanitarian <strong>and</strong> development agencies to give appropriate<br />
support to the rehabilitation of communities <strong>and</strong> individuals affected<br />
by armed conflict (see UNHCR, 1996 <strong>and</strong> recommendations on peacebuilding<br />
strategies, pp.1–8, Brahini Report, United Nations, 2000).<br />
3.9.13 Once conditions permit, assess the need <strong>for</strong> environmental mitigation <strong>and</strong><br />
respond appropriately, including through the possible re-introduction of<br />
displaced species. Useful references <strong>and</strong> guidance include the Journal of<br />
Restoration Ecology <strong>and</strong> the <strong>IUCN</strong> Species Survival <strong>Co</strong>mmission’s<br />
Guidelines <strong>for</strong> Re-introductions (<strong>IUCN</strong>/SSC, 1995).<br />
