Vietnaml› kad›nlar genelin
aksine, güneflten korunmak ve
bronzlaflmamak için; büyük has›r
flapkalar, kumafl maskeler
ve kollar›n› örten uzun eldivenler
ile özel çaba sarf ediyor.
Unlike many others, Vietnamese
women go to great extents by
using large reed hats, cloth
masks and long gloves that cover
their arms, in order not to
get sun-tanned.
Otoyoldan ilerlemeye bafllay›nca, 200 kilometrelik yolun kolay
bitmeyece¤ini anlad›m. fieridin birine kurutulmak için pirinç,
m›s›r ve kahve serilmiflti. Geri kalan tek fleridi de motosikletler,
bisikletler, ka¤n› arabalar›, t›ka basa dolu yolcu otobüsleri, kaz
sürüleri ve otomobiller paylafl›yordu. Saygon’dan uzaklafl›nca,
kendimi inan›lmaz güzellikler içinde buldum. Göz alabildi¤ine
uzanan yemyeflil pirinç tarlalar›, yamaçlardaki taraçalarda çay
bahçeleri, hevenkleri tafl›makta zorlanan muz a¤açlar›... Her yer
öylesine yeflildi ki, bir kar›fl boz toprak görünmüyordu.
Arabam›z durunca kalabal›k hemen etraf›m›z› sar›yordu.
Çocuklar bildikleri bir iki kelime ile hemen, “ad›n ne”, “nas›ls›n”
diye soruyorlard›. ‹nsanlar bana bir fleyler ikram edebilmek için
adeta birbirleriyle yar›fl›yorlard›.
motosikletlere benzin servisi yap›yorlard›. Di¤er Güney Asya
ülkelerine bakarak Vietnam halk›n›n davran›fllar› bize daha yak›n
diyebilirim. ‹lk bak›flta k›zg›n ve kavgac› görünüyorlar ama
asl›nda ruh hallerini size yans›t›yorlar. Çok da güleç yüzlüler.
Dalat kentine yaklafl›rken gün tükenmiflti. Geçti¤imiz köy ve
kasabalarda herkes yol k›y›s›nda oturuyordu. Hatta alçak yemek
masalar›n› yol k›y›s›na kuranlar bile vard›. Kentler, kasabalar,
köyler hep yollar›n iki k›y›s›na infla edilmiflti. Vietnam için yol,
yaflam demekti. Orta Vietnam’›n en güzel kentlerinden Dalat’ta
lane was being shared by motorcycles, bicycles, ox driven
carriages, tourist buses, flocks of geese and cars. Once out of
Saigon, I found myself enveloped by indescribable beauty.
Greenest rice paddies, fields of tea, banana trees struggling
to carry the fruit as far as the eye can see… It was so green
everywhere, there was not a handful of soil visible.
Whenever our vehicle stopped, the crowd would gather around
us. With the few words they spoke, the children would ask
“What’s your name?” and “How are you?” People raced to offer
me food. It was from these people that I learned how tasty
grapefruit was when dipped in salt and paprika. The roadside
was lined with peddlers. Some sold foreign cigarettes in their
tiny booths, others served motorcycles with gas from bottles
lined up on tables in front of their houses. Thinking of the
people of other Far Eastern countries, I could say that the
Vietnamese people are closer to us in spirit. They might appear
angry and aggressive at first but in truth they show you all
their emotional range. They are also very charming.
As we approached the city of Dalat, the day was drawing to an
end. In the villages and towns we passed through, everybody
was sitting on the side of the road. Cities, towns and villages
were all built on the two sides of the road. In Vietnam,
the road meant life. After spending a day in Dalat, one of
the most beautiful cities of central Vietnam, I headed to
Nha Trang. After renting a fishing motorboat as a hotel there,
