The his<strong>to</strong>ric spawning coastline for <strong>Lynn</strong> <strong>Canal</strong> <strong>Herring</strong> extended outside of <strong>Lynn</strong> <strong>Canal</strong><br />

in<strong>to</strong> Icy Strait. This spawning area was likely at least 50 miles of coastline before his<strong>to</strong>ric<br />

overfishing reduced <strong>the</strong> population (Rounsefell 1931, Rounsefell and Dahlgren 1936, Skud<br />

1959) (See Figure 5). In 1956-1957, <strong>Lynn</strong> <strong>Canal</strong> <strong>Herring</strong> spawned on 28.1 nautical miles (52<br />

km) of coastline (ADFG 2004), but this was likely a reduced population. Thus, based Hay et al.<br />

(2001a) and evidence from Carlson (1980), <strong>Lynn</strong> <strong>Canal</strong> <strong>Herring</strong> do not intermingle with o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

herring s<strong>to</strong>cks and exhibit strong site fidelity for <strong>Lynn</strong> <strong>Canal</strong> and <strong>the</strong> immediate vicinity.<br />
