h. Arrange for incident site visits for members of<br />

Congress and their staffs.<br />

i. Develop appropriate responses to issues and<br />

questions raised by congressional personnel.<br />

j. Prepare the FCO or principal staff to meet with<br />

members of Congress and state and local officials<br />

or to appear before congressional committees by<br />

researching issues and preparing written materials.<br />

k. Participate in planning meetings, when requested.<br />

l. Document in writing all significant decisions and<br />

facts relative to your activities on the incident.<br />

Assistant External Affairs Officer–Intergovernmental<br />

(AEIG). The AEIG reports to the EAO and is responsible for<br />

promoting federal interaction with state, local, and tribal<br />

governments in close coordination with Operations Section<br />

personnel, especially branch directors and division<br />

supervisors. Primary duties include the following:<br />

a. Review Common Responsibilities (see Chapter 2).<br />

b. Obtain an initial briefing from the supervisor.<br />

c. Review state, tribal, local government profiles,<br />

disaster history, and demographics.<br />

d. Make contact with state, tribal, county or parish, and<br />

municipal governments.<br />

e. Assign a Tribal Liaison, if necessary, to coordinate<br />

with tribal governments on all aspects of incident<br />

management operations.<br />

f. Work closely with Operations field personnel<br />

(branch directors and division and GRPSs) when<br />

assigned.<br />

g. Participate in the incident action planning process.<br />

h. Supervise assigned personnel.<br />

i. Document in writing all significant decisions and<br />

facts relative to your activities on the incident.<br />
