Tradition and ceremony take command
at Opening Day, an annual event
among all yacht clubs to mark the official
opening of the boating season. HHYC,
founded in 1965, will hold its Opening
Day on April 10, kicking the day off with
registration and a continental breakfast
at 11 AM, followed by a boat parade
and “Pass in Revue” salute to the current
Club officers, formal ceremonies at
2:00 PM and fi nally a buffet at 3:30 PM.
Officers of other yacht clubs and boating
associations are invited to attend and we
look forward to our many guests. We not
only pay tribute to our current officers,
but we commemorate those members
who passed on during the preceding year,
including Peggy Mouritz, Jack Hayden,
Lorraine McCune, Staff Commodore Bill
Hartge, Stuart Zuck, Dr. George Higue,
and Bunny Leon.

Concours d’Elegance on Saturday, April
9, at which many of our members’ boats
will be on display at our docks for viewing
by members and guests, and prizes
will be awarded to the best entries in
various categories.
On January 28 the Club hosted
“Wine Knot,” a wine tasting event that
included not only the participating
wineries, but catered food, live music, a
silent auction and gondola rides in the
harbor, all of which raised substantial
sums for the Huntington Beach Sailing
Foundation, known for its annual summer
junior sailing school. On February 6,
Club members and their guests enjoyed
a Superbowl Party in our upstairs bar,
and on March 26, the Club became the
scene of a Mardis Gras masked ball, with
dancing to the music of the Dream Trio.
March also brought the fi rst Club
cruise of 2011, in which member cruisers,
coordinated by Fleet Captain Dean
Oliver, joined up with skippers from
several other yacht clubs to form a giant
weekend circular “raft up” in Newport
Harbor.
