TRS STAR Touch Technology
TRS Star Touch is a gesture capable multi touch
solution based on Atmel’s patented Charge
Transfer
Know how for foil and HW/FW design is completely at
TRS Star
» Ability to customize solutions and support integration
QMatrix method:
n The TRS Star Touch foil is placed behind glass and is based
on 2 layers: one X and one Y layer
n Drive pulses are applied to the X layer and get measured
on the Y layer as the mutual capacitance between X and Y
n The controller chip recognizes electrical field changes
caused by one or more fingers and calculates the coordinates
of these fingers
Advantages of the TRS Star Touch
n It works behind glass up to 1cm thickness and behind
plastic up to 4mm
n Use of gloves, fingernails or passive stylus is supported
n Sensors are not limited to a rectangular shape but if realized
as PCB the shape can be round as well
n Size of the touch sensor is not limited to the active area
of the TFT, but can be bigger to integrate capacitive keys
around the display
n Suitable for industrial, medical and railway applications as
it has an excellent EMV / EMI behavior (30V/m)
ADVANTAGES of the TRS Star Touch Controller
n Up to 10 finger multitouch
n Driver support for Win XP / 7, Linux and Win CE
n API support up to 10 finger multitouch
n Ability to set the most important sensor parameters over
the driver
n Touch controller with Serial or USB interface
n Works with 5V over USB or serial over 3,3V
n Possibility to integrate the controller with screws in the
customer system or to solder it using the pads located on
the edge of the controller board
