Development on Demand<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g sessions are scheduled subject to demand dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
year. Several run monthly with<strong>in</strong> schools and faculties. In addition to<br />
these sessions, experts <strong>in</strong> Enterprise and Development can <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
guidance and support on project plann<strong>in</strong>g, project management,<br />
monitor<strong>in</strong>g and evaluat<strong>in</strong>g projects. Throughout the year the<br />
Enterprise Academy <strong>of</strong>fers staff and student development sessions<br />
focused on bus<strong>in</strong>ess start-up, market<strong>in</strong>g and promotion, idea<br />
development and plann<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Consultancy, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and<br />
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)<br />

This roadshow session will run throughout the year tak<strong>in</strong>g place<br />
regularly <strong>in</strong> each faculty. Sessions will be sector-specific and will look<br />
at the key benefits to you, and to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>in</strong> engag<strong>in</strong>g with the<br />
KTP scheme. The sessions will concentrate on identify<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
capitaliz<strong>in</strong>g on consultancy opportunities and exploit<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
protect<strong>in</strong>g your <strong>in</strong>tellectual property. Sessions will be scheduled and<br />
promoted <strong>in</strong> advance.<br />
Enterprise and Entrepreneurship for Students<br />
Claire MacLean, Enterprise and Development<br />
This session will look at <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g both enterprise <strong>in</strong> the curriculum<br />
and extra curricular activity which encourages and develops enterprise<br />
behaviours, skills and attributes <strong>in</strong> our students. The session will focus<br />
on the services and support available to help staff to develop their<br />
enterprise teach<strong>in</strong>g, to support enterprise activity and to evidence<br />
employability skills. Participants will hear from colleagues who have<br />
developed their own approaches to embedd<strong>in</strong>g enterprise <strong>in</strong> their<br />
courses, and will be <strong>in</strong>vited to jo<strong>in</strong> the Community <strong>of</strong> Practice for<br />
Enterprise Learn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
International Market<strong>in</strong>g and Recruitment<br />

This session will focus on how to maximize the success <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> and its programmes <strong>in</strong> the overseas markets. Although<br />
focus<strong>in</strong>g on specific markets the sessions will also provide general<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation cover<strong>in</strong>g overall recruitment plans, the role <strong>of</strong> Hobson’s<br />
and the agent network.<br />
Prepar<strong>in</strong>g a Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Plan<br />

We all have that eureka moment where we have an idea for a worldbeat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong>novation. This session is designed to give you a practical<br />
overview <strong>of</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g a bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan to establish how your idea can<br />
be developed and exploited. The session will cover the ma<strong>in</strong><br />
components <strong>of</strong> a bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan along with tips on how best to<br />
research and evaluate your idea. In addition, participants will be<br />
<strong>in</strong>troduced to the <strong>University</strong>’s bus<strong>in</strong>ess networks and to the Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
Mentors programme.<br />
Protect<strong>in</strong>g your Ideas<br />
Claire MacLean, Enterprise and Development<br />
New ideas with commercial potential should be protected before they<br />
are discussed outside the <strong>University</strong> with bus<strong>in</strong>esses or potential<br />
collaborators. This session discusses the ma<strong>in</strong> types <strong>of</strong> Intellectual<br />
Property Rights (IPR) that can be employed <strong>in</strong> these circumstances and<br />
gives attendees the opportunity to ask questions about how IPRs can<br />
be used <strong>in</strong> commercializ<strong>in</strong>g research output.<br />
