These development opportunities focus primarily on manag<strong>in</strong>g people<br />
through change with<strong>in</strong> a context <strong>of</strong> systematic, consistent and<br />
pr<strong>in</strong>cipled people management. Specific modules on manag<strong>in</strong>g<br />
change are <strong>of</strong>fered as part <strong>of</strong> the longer programmes. We can also<br />
support change processes through bespoke development for teams or<br />
groups <strong>of</strong> staff <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g groups <strong>of</strong> managers or leaders.<br />
Managers also can have access to a range <strong>of</strong> onl<strong>in</strong>e learn<strong>in</strong>g material<br />
on manag<strong>in</strong>g change for managers and leaders <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
guides, book summaries, recommended articles and web sites and<br />

This highly <strong>in</strong>teractive session will focus on the critical aspects <strong>of</strong><br />
a manager’s role and is recommended for all new managers.<br />
Experienced managers new to the <strong>University</strong> are also welcome but are<br />
advised to contact us to discuss what would be most helpful for them.<br />
The aim is to help new managers understand the requirements,<br />
responsibilities and expectations <strong>of</strong> their new role and signpost<br />
sources <strong>of</strong> advice, support and further learn<strong>in</strong>g to enable them to<br />
be effective.<br />

General Sessions For All Managers<br />
These sessions outl<strong>in</strong>e the role and responsibilities <strong>of</strong> managers <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e<br />
with legislative and <strong>in</strong>stitutional policies and procedures. They are<br />
mandatory for all new managers and may be useful refresher sessions<br />
for exist<strong>in</strong>g managers.<br />

The HERA Team<br />
The HERA process aims to produce a staff structure that is fair and free<br />
from bias. The role <strong>of</strong> the verifier is a key function <strong>in</strong> this process and<br />
the session will aim to give support to those who are new to the role<br />
but would also be <strong>of</strong> value to those who wish to review current<br />
practice. By the end <strong>of</strong> the session verifiers should have a clearer<br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> their role with<strong>in</strong> the HERA scheme which will help to<br />
ensure a consistent approach across the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

This Code <strong>of</strong> Practice for the Recruitment <strong>of</strong> Staff morn<strong>in</strong>g workshop<br />
is compulsory for any staff member <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the recruitment<br />
process (i.e. draw<strong>in</strong>g up person specifications, shortlist<strong>in</strong>g or<br />
<strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g) and is divided <strong>in</strong>to 2 parts. Part 1 is an onl<strong>in</strong>e self-study<br />
pack which provides a basic overview <strong>of</strong> the recruitment process and<br />
relevant legislation. Part 2 <strong>of</strong> the workshop is a face to face session<br />
which gives participants the opportunity to develop their<br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> recruitment and explore the process <strong>in</strong> greater<br />
detail. Participants are strongly advised to also attend the l<strong>in</strong>ked<br />
Interview<strong>in</strong>g Skills workshop to enhance/refresh their practice <strong>in</strong><br />
deliver<strong>in</strong>g a successful recruitment and selection process.<br />

Development Scheme: appraiser tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

In respond<strong>in</strong>g to the implications <strong>of</strong> the Framework Agreement,<br />
the <strong>University</strong> is currently review<strong>in</strong>g its appraisal process.<br />
However appraiser tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for the current Staff Appraisal and<br />
Development Scheme (SADS) will cont<strong>in</strong>ue to be available this year<br />
until a new scheme has been agreed. This workshop is mandatory for<br />
staff <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> carry<strong>in</strong>g out appraisals. It is divided <strong>in</strong>to two parts:<br />
part one is an onl<strong>in</strong>e self study pack which provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the<br />
appraisal process and part two is a face to face session focus<strong>in</strong>g on<br />
the skills required to ensure an effective appraisal review.<br />
