Staff Development Programme Develop<strong>in</strong>g Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Capability 01<br />

Foreword<br />

We are justly proud <strong>of</strong> our framework <strong>of</strong> staff development at<br />

<strong>Salford</strong>, which is designed to reflect our goals and priorities, address<br />

issues aris<strong>in</strong>g from the national higher education agenda, and to<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer opportunities for personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

Staff development at <strong>Salford</strong> is also an <strong>in</strong>tegral part <strong>of</strong> our<br />

commitment to the development <strong>of</strong> all members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

We know from the feedback that we receive from staff that the<br />

majority <strong>of</strong> you both value and ga<strong>in</strong> a great deal from your<br />

<strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> this programme. The value <strong>of</strong> this participation lies<br />

not just <strong>in</strong> the new skills and perspectives that the sessions equip you<br />

with, but also <strong>in</strong> the opportunities they provide to meet and share<br />

experiences with colleagues from across the <strong>University</strong>, and to step<br />

back and reflect <strong>in</strong> a purposeful but relaxed environment.<br />

Today, Realis<strong>in</strong>g our Vision is lead<strong>in</strong>g us through a period <strong>of</strong><br />

significant and excit<strong>in</strong>g organizational change. The framework <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional and personal development this programme provides<br />

should make a significant contribution to this change process.<br />

I hope therefore that you will choose to participate <strong>in</strong> this year’s<br />

programme and that the new knowledge and <strong>in</strong>sights which you<br />

acquire will serve you well both <strong>in</strong> your daily work and <strong>in</strong> tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

forward your career.<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ally, be<strong>in</strong>g a dynamic process, change will cont<strong>in</strong>ue to raise new<br />

needs that require different approaches and solutions. If you would<br />

like to arrange staff development to meet your specific needs or<br />

those <strong>of</strong> your team, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g those aris<strong>in</strong>g from this period <strong>of</strong><br />

organizational change, please do not hesitate to discuss these with<br />

our colleagues <strong>in</strong> Staff Development.<br />
