City Councillor for the area, Shawn
Fraser, were among the first to drink
from the ceremonial keg. The night
was filled with live music provided
by Len Gadica and later, the Pile
of Bones Brass Band. We had performances
from the Karnevalsgesellschaft
Harmonie dancers and of
course our Annual Team Challenge
proved to be more then entertaining.
After three years of coming close to
winning, the returning team, ‘Family
Von Trashed,’ finally succeeded!
As usual everyone enjoyed our pig
roast and new variety of imported
German beers. A HUGE thank you
goes out to the Oktoberfest committee
and volunteers who helped make
this year a great success! Coming
up next is our 3rd Annual Christkindlmarkt
scheduled for November
30 and later our Annual Club Weihnachtsfest
in December. We have
received many new applications for
a variety of Christkindlmarkt booths
this year and are looking forward
to sharing the festive environment
with all ages. Call the club for more

Events at the Club

The Saskatoon German Cultural
Centre is experiencing continued
patronage in all areas.
Folkfest was held August 15 to 17
and was a huge success. The weather
co-operated, so we had three
days of sunshine and warm temperatures.
This is so important since so
much of our pavilion is held outside.
A traditional Fall Supper was held
at the club on September 19.
Oktoberfest was held on October
19, 2013. This is always an evening
of dancing, singing, good food and
much merry making.
On November 17 the Cultural Centre
will host a Christkindl Market.
We are inviting all crafts and hobby
people to ran a table and display
their wares. There will also be food,
sleigh rides, outdoor games, etc.
that afternoon, a family day.
New logo for the school

The school year has begun with
another fantastic group of instructors
and enthusiastic students and
parents! On the first day of school,
we commenced with the traditional
welcoming of students and families
back to school as well presenting
our new students with a Schultüte,
filled with items that are practical
for school use as well as a few treats.
Younger students were also able to
witness the significant accomplishment
of our advanced students who
were successful recipients of the
A2 language proficiency certifications
from the German government.

Lyon, Morgan Morin and Angelika
Wagner received their framed
certificates with huge congratulations
from the crowd that had gathered.
We are very proud of them!
This school year also marks the introduction
and full implementation
of our new school logo. Our school
had a modified anniversary logo
that incorporated the original school
logo when we celebrated our 60th
anniversary in 2011/2012, so last
year it was decided that this would
be an appropriate time to update
and modernize the logo for the next
60 years of the school’s existence!
