AUBREY BERNARD (A.B.) LEE, 1930 graduate
of the two-year school, died September 21,
2001. He was a resident of Opp, Alabama, and
specialized in general surgery.
SAMUEL MASON DAY, JR., 1935 graduate
of the two-year school, died May 2, 2001. He was
a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, and specialized
in general surgery.
WILLIAM FRANKLIN DRUMMOND, 1935
graduate of the two-year school, died February
28, 2001. He was a resident of Shreveport,
Louisiana, and specialized in internal medicine.
LAURENCE STEPHENSON WOODLEY,
1935 graduate of the two-year school, died May
18, 2001. He was a resident of Tuscaloosa,
Alabama, and specialized in otolaryngology.
CAROLINE JANE WILLIAMS, 1939 graduate
of the two-year school, died January 25, 2002.
She was a resident of Savannah, Georgia, and specialized
in internal medicine.
JAMES D. SYNNOTT, 1940 graduate of the twoyear
school, died August 5, 2001. He was a resident
of Houston, Texas, and specialized in family practice.
EMANUEL CHERASKIN, 1942 graduate of
the two-year school, died in August 2001. He was
a resident of Birmingham, Alabama, and specialized
in internal medicine.
STACY LINTON ROLLINS, JR., 1942 graduate
of the two-year school, died July 3, 2001. He
was a resident of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and
specialized in neurological surgery.
CARL FREDERICK DIETZ, Class of 1946,
died January 7, 2002. He was a resident of Minor,
Alabama, and specialized in family practice.
HERMAN CHARLES PATTERSON, Class of
1955, died August 1, 2001. He was a resident of
Chatom, Alabama, and specialized in family practice.
JAMES STUART MITCHELL, JR., Class of 1956,
died February 2, 2002. He was a resident of Phenix
City, Alabama, and specialized in general medicine.
ALONZA RAYMOND PAPPAS, Class of
1956, died in February 1999. He was a resident
of Mobile, Alabama, and specialized in pediatrics.
JAMES OLIVER WILLIAMS, SR., Class of
1958, died October 22, 2001. He was a resident
of Sylacauga, Alabama, and specialized in
general surgery.
CLARENCE DONALD “DON” WHIGH-
AM, Class of 1958, died Sunday, May 12, 2002,
from a stroke. A resident of Rosman, North
Carolina, Don specialized in general surgery.
WILLIAM R. WALTON, Class of 1960, died
February 8, 2002. A native of Birmingham, Alabama,
and a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War,
Walton moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1960,
where he specialized in anesthesiology.
ANNE BOTTOMS WOUTERS, Class of
1960, died December 15, 2001. She was a resident
of Jasper, Alabama, and specialized in pediatrics.
JOE CLARK ALLEN, Class of 1967, died
February 26, 2002. He was a resident of
Pensacola, Florida, and was retired from nephrology
and internal medicine.
DONALD JARED SILBERMAN, resident 1968,
died April 2001. He was a resident of Birmingham,
Alabama, and specialized in psychiatry.
JAMES NEIL SUSSEX, Professor and Head of
the Division of Child Psychiatry in 1955 and Chair
of the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical
College of Alabama in Birmingham until 1968,
died October 18, 2001. He was a resident of Singer
Island, Florida, and specialized in psychiatry.
RUTHERFORD B. POLHILL, JR., resident
1971, died April 5, 2002. A resident of
Birmingham, Alabama, Polhill was an associate
professor of pediatrics at the UASOM and attending
physician of pediatric emergency medicine,
and medical director of the Telephone Triage
System at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. He
served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander,
earned an MBA from the graduate school of
business at Samford University (graduating at the
top of his class), and held many professional honors,
appointments, and certifications.
JAMES ROBERT GLASSNER, resident 1985,
died December 16, 2001. He was a resident of
Montgomery, Alabama, and specialized in ophthalmology.
DENNIS J. DAVIN, Class of 1992, died April
21, 2002. He was a resident of Portland, Oregon,
and specialized in orthopedic surgery. He was a
board member and officer of the Oregon
Association of Orthopedics, and a member of the
American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the
Western Orthopedic Association, and the
American Medical Association. A memorial fund
has been established to assist his family; please

PHILIP THOMAS WEISBACH, JR., resident
1950, died January 18, 2002. He resided in
Beaumont, Texas, and specialized in ophthalmology.
PHILLIP JUDKINS ENSLEN, Class of 1953,
died April 17, 2002. He was a resident of Monroe,
Georgia, and specialized in general medicine.

HARTWELL H. WARD, Class of 1953, died
July 9, 2002. Ward helped form the Birmingham
Medical Group headquarters for the Jefferson
Health Foundation. He was a resident of
Birmingham, Alabama, and specialized in internal
medicine.
BUFORD B. SANDERS, Class of 1955, died
June 18, 2002. Sanders was a member of the
American Medical Association, the Alabama
Medical Society, the Jefferson County Medical
Society, the Caduceus Club, and the University of
Alabama Medical Alumni Association. He was a
resident of Birmingham, Alabama, and specialized
in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

DEBRA LOCKHART TETREAULT
and her husband Martin announce the
birth of their second child, Robert Reilly
Tetreault, who joins his sister Hallie, age
four. Debra specializes in pediatrics and
is in private practice in Smithfield,
North Carolina.
1992
CHRISTINE LONG CHOAT and
DENNIS EDWARD CHOAT announce
the birth of their first child, Jack Morgan
Choat, born September 6, 2001. Dennis
specializes in colon and rectal surgery and
Christine specializes in internal medicine.
They live in Peachtree City, Georgia.

WILLIAM FRANK WILLETT III and
his wife Joy announce the birth of their
daughter, Anna Elizabeth Willett, on
October 10, 2001. She joins her bother
James Nathan, who turned 2 on
December 31, 2001. Frank is an associate
pathologist at St. Francis Hospital in
Columbus, Georgia.
1994
CHRIS WOLFF and his wife Greta
announce the birth of their first child,
Oskar Christian Wolff, born April 21,
2001. Chris practices family medicine in
Davidson, North Carolina.
1995
JIM MCGRATH and his wife Lisa
announce the birth of their daughter, Lily
Katherine McGrath, born December 13,
2001. Jim is a resident of Tucker, Georgia,
and specializes in hematology/oncology.
