expected that some or all of these centers will be linked as consortia in order to share expertise,
resources, and facilities and to avoid duplication.
To educate the public about specific dietary supplement issues, the ODS is jointly
developing with the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center, NIH, a set of public-oriented fact
sheets about specific dietary supplements that will be available on request and through the
Internet. These fact sheets, which will be peer-reviewed, will present and interpret the scientific
literature in a more applied sense. The ODS is also collaborating with the developers of a CD-
ROM educational program to support a dietary supplement module for medical student
education.
The ODS looks forward to continuing its efforts to fulfill the mandates set forth for it by
Congress, that is “to promote the scientific study of dietary supplements for maintaining health
and preventing chronic diseases and other health-related conditions” (DSHEA, 1994) for the
American people.
