SECTION 5.0
POINT CONTROL REQUIREMENTS
This section of the specification states the minimum requirements to be considered
for the design and manufacture of the Dual or Non Dual control point machine.
5.1 Operation and Construction
a) The time of operation with the nominated operating voltage at the motor
terminals shall not exceed 3 seconds with a minimum force of 6.70kN with an
operating current of 10A (max), nor shall it exceed 3.5 seconds at a voltage
10% below normal.
The manufacturer shall supply all operating values in relation to the various
gear ratios used in the mechanism offered.
b) The point machine mechanisms shall have a minimum service life of 30
years.
c) The point machine mechanisms shall maintain its performance without need
for adjustment over a temperature range of -20 to 70 degrees.
d) The point machine mechanisms shall be so constructed and equipped that
point operation can be stopped or reversed at any point of movement by
manipulation of point control function.
e) The point machine mechanisms shall be provided with staggered or top and
bottom locking for normal and reverse position of points.
f) Each point machine mechanism shall be equipped with an efficient friction
clutch to prevent damage in case movement of points is obstructed.
g) Each point machine mechanism shall include a means to automatically
remove the motor drive after a pre-determined time should the machine not
complete its full operation.
The means utilised to remove the motor drive shall reset automatically when
the point control is called to the opposite lie.
This time-out period shall be set to between 3-4 times the expected operation
times under full load.
h) All parts of the point machine mechanisms shall be strong enough to permit
the stopping of the points at any part of their movement by the introduction of
an obstruction between the point blade and stock rails, without damage to any
part.
i) The point machine mechanisms and circuit controlling devices shall be
enclosed in a metal weatherproof case, the covering of which shall be
removable and equipped with suitable fastenings for application of padlocks
(Refer to VRIOGS 012.2., Section 21.7), and when open shall provide access
to all parts.
