12 VRIOGS 012.7.13 Revision A SECTION 6.0 POINT LOCKING MECHANISMS This section of the specification states the minimum requirements to be considered for the design and manufacture of the point operating and locking mechanisms. a) The point lock mechanisms shall be able to be driven by electric, pneumatic and hydraulic power units with a drive stroke of 180mm. b) The point lock mechanisms shall be constructed of robust materials such that they can sustain 200,000 operations without replacement. c) All point lock components shall be made to gauge and interchangeable. d) Fixed elements of point locks fitted to switches shall be manufactured to fit the turnout and minimise the fitting of shims. e) Adjustment of the point lock mechanisms shall be by shim between the lock arm bracket and the switch. f) Shims shall be provided in 0.8, 1.6 and 2.4mm thickness. g) The point lock mechanisms shall be fixed to the switch and stockrail, and detector rods shall be fixed to the switch. h) Bolts used in the assembly and fitting of the point lock mechanisms shall be zinc plated (or equivalent) and be fitted with self locking nuts. i) Galvanised bolts (if supplied) shall have the thread cleaned with a die nut to suit the self locking nuts. j) All bearing surfaces (including pins and bushes) shall be capable of a minimum of 350,000 operations. k) All sliding and pressure surfaces of the point lock components shall be hardchrome plated. l) The drive bar shall be electrically insulated from the point lock mechanisms on each side of the turnout. VRIOGS 012.7.13 Revision A 13 SECTION 7.0 DELIVERABLE REQUIREMENTS 7.1 Inspections and Tests a) Each point machine mechanism shall be subjected to a series of inspections and tests to confirm that it conforms to the requirements stated in this specification. b) The manufacturer shall carry out all electrical and/or mechanical inspections and tests to verify that the point machine mechanism conforms fully to this specification prior to delivery. c) All these tests shall be carried out at the manufacturer’s premises at their cost. The Purchaser reserves the right to witness these tests. d) All apparatus and instrumentation required for the tests shall be provided by the manufacturer. e) The inspection and test records shall be retained by the manufacturer for a period not less than the nominated storage life and warranty period of the equipment. 7.2 Certificates a) The result of the inspection and testing are to be submitted in the form of a signed certificate on the manufacturer’s company letterhead. b) The manufacturer shall provide the completed Certificate of Compliance to the Purchaser with the delivery of the equipment. c) The certificate shall include but not be limited to the following information:- • Certification number and Date of certification • Customer’s name and Contract number • Purchase order number • Date of manufacture • Quantity of delivery • Unique serial number for individual product or batch code assigned by the manufacturer • Inspection and test results • Date of the inspection and testing • Statement of compliance that the product meets all the requirements of this specification • Name and Signature of the manufacturer’s management representative d) The Purchaser shall have the right to request supporting Quality Assurance documentation to accompany the manufacturer’s Certificate of Compliance.
