10 VRIOGS 012.7.13 Revision A 5.9 Insulation a) All electrical equipment shall be double insulated from the case. b) The surface leakage distance between any exposed current carrying parts and any exposed current carrying parts and case or metallic components shall not be less than 15mm. The air gap between any exposed current carrying part and case or other metallic component shall be not less than 6.3mm. c) The motor capacitor(s), and any rectifier (where used) and the thermal overload unit are excluded from the following specified insulation tests. 5.9.1 Applied High Voltage Test a) The insulation shall withstand, for a period of one minute, a test voltage of 2000V RMS applied between all parts of electrical circuits and other metallic parts insulated therefore. b) The test voltage shall be alternating, approximately of sine wave form and of any frequency between 25Hz and 100Hz. 5.9.2 Insulation Resistance Test a) This test shall be carried out immediately after the “Applied High Voltage Test” and at a potential of 1000V DC. b) The insulation resistance shall be measured between all insulated circuits and earth and the minimum value for the completely wired machine, except for those excluded components noted above, shall be not less than 100MΩ. 5.10 Wiring a) All internal wiring shall be V105 PVC insulated PVC sheathed cable, with tinned stranded copper conductors. Conductor size shall be typically 50/0.2mm for motor circuits and 32/0.2mm for control and detection circuits. b) All internal wiring shall be terminated using heavy-duty pre-insulated electrotinned copper crimp lugs. Each wiring conductor shall be colour coded or individually numbered. c) Suitable mechanical protection shall be provided where wiring passes through holes or areas subject to abrasion. 5.11 Terminals a) Terminals for external wiring shall preferably be M6 or 2BA screw studs spaced at 20mm centres. Each terminal shall be numbered in accordance with the wiring diagram. b) Other terminal types such as screw clamp may be accepted for this application but the particular terminal type and part number will need to be submitted for approval. c) Spade type connectors, if used shall be super grip pre-insulated types and/or shall be fully covered by insulating sleeves. VRIOGS 012.7.13 Revision A 11 5.12 Wiring Diagram a) A weatherproof wiring diagram shall be fixed to the inside of the point machine in such a manner that it remains legible and cannot interfere with the operation of the mechanism, should it become detached, over the life of the point machine. b) The wiring diagram shall indicate any alterations required to convert the hand of operation of the point machine. 5.13 Labelling a) Labelling shall be in accordance with the requirements of VRIOG Standard “General Requirements for Labelling of Signalling Equipment” VRIOGS 012.7.30. 5.14 Finish a) All exposed steelwork shall have sharp edges and burrs removed and all welds neat and free of slag. b) The whole of the steelwork, including electrical equipment, usually painted shall be cleaned free of oil and grease. c) However, all unprotected ferrous components forming the assembly shall be supplied lightly coated with SAE 30 OIL with 20% MOLYBOND COLLOID 20 ADDITIVE or an approved alternative. d) No application of oil is permitted on the electrical equipment housed under the cover. e) All internal metal parts liable to corrosion, except bearing and contact surfaces shall be protected against corrosion using a heavy-duty electroplating (or equivalent) process. f) The material used for protection against corrosion under ordinary condition shall withstand temperature range between -40°C and +85°C.
