The intent of Child Find is that all children from birththroughage21withdelaysordisabilities are identified, located and evaluated to receive the supports and services they need. Lancaster City Schools is responsible for “finding” eligible children and providing services needed for them to reach their developmental milestones or meet their educational needs. The Lancaster City Schools is again seeking to identify resident students between the ages of 3 and 21 who may exhibit difficulties with mobility, voice or hearing, visual acuity, physical limitations due to orthopedic or muscle abnormalities, cognitive, language or emotional difficulties. If you know a child who resides in the Lancaster CitySchooldistrictwithoneormoreofthe difficulties listed above, please encourage the parent(s) to contact the Department of Student Services at (740) 687-7360 to schedule an appointment. A member of our team will initiate a referral for a screening or possible evaluation. In order to receive early intervention or special education services, a childmustbeevaluatedtoconfirmthattheyhavea delay or disability that falls under state definitions. Ifyouhaveachildorknowofachildyoufeelmay bedelayedinanyareabetweentheagesofbirthto 2.9 months, referrals can be made through the Help Me Grow Program at (740) 681-4881. Information About Lancaster City Schools Registration and Enrollment The Lancaster City Schools’ offices will reopen on Monday, August 4.. Parents of students entering Lancaster City Schools for the first time are required to provide a birth certificate, Social Security card, an up-to-date immunization record, ahealthrecord,proofofcustodyandprevious school records (if applicable). We appreciate receiving a copy of your child’s I.E.P. if he/she has been enrolled in any special education classes. Parents may access our website https://www. lancaster.k12.oh.us/elinkrp/search.aspx for bus route information or may phone our transportation department at 687-7366 for specific information on school boundary lines. Student Handbooks Parents are asked to review the student and athletic handbook with their children. Hand-books areprovidedatthestartofeachschoolyear,and students are required to sign for receipt of each one. Nutritious Lunches Served Daily All students have access to our excellent, school lunchprogram.Awell-balanced,hotlunchis served daily. Students may choose from a variety of menu items. TRANSITION 063 4+1/ sensethat.Ifpleasantmemoriescanbeassociated withthechange,suchasschoolshopping,going outforicecreamoronelastdayatthepool,the transition will be easier for you. • Give your child time to get accustomed to the idea of change. Respect the fact that your child needs time to work through feelings. Be available, but don’t force the issue. • Make planning for the transition a joint endeavor. Onceyourchildhasturnedthecorner-thatis-has be<strong>com</strong>eresignedtotheanticipatedchange,listen to what is important to him or her. Perhaps one last outing is important or special time to play with a friend, or a visit to see relatives. • Let the transition <strong>com</strong>e naturally without creating undue pressure. Change creates uncertainty, even when viewed as a positive. Whether the transition isgoingbacktoschool,anewchildenteringthe family or a sibling going off to college, change can create anxiety and insecurity. Listen for the sources of the anxiety and try to face those positively without denying your child’s fears. Say, for example, “Yoursisterwillwriteandcallyoufromcollege.” Reassuring children will not take away the feelings of uncertainty, but it will plant a seed of hope. • Transitionsareapartoflifeforparentstoo.Spend time thinking about how you respond to change. Rememberwhatitwaslikeforyouasachild.Then use that information to help you guide your children through their transitions.
