. Swimming
At the time of writing, swimmers can swim all over
the lake, but the pressure and the number of users
is too high in summer. What those living on the
lakeside and experts want is to direct swimmers
to certain zones along the banks, as well as raising
the awareness of these visitors, which would
enable man-made impacts on certain banks to be
reduced significantly:
- Reduce the negative impacts of swimming on the
banks of Lake Bohinj;
- Without banning swimming in the lake;
- And without limiting access to the lakeshores.
c. Ski slopes in the catchment area
There are ski slopes in the catchment area upstream
from the lake. Due to the park’s regulations,
producing artificial snow is not permitted.
Numerous problems and conflicts of interest are
related to this activity. Skiing professionals would
like to be able to produce artificial snow, which
would extend the effective skiing season.
d. Road traffic
There is too much traffic around the lake. Visitors
park all over the place in spite of fines applying.
The large number of cars and motorbikes is
harmful to the lake and the surrounding sectors.
Exhaust fumes pollute the air and trees; fuel and oil
spills and stains are a serious threat to the soils and
water. Several measures have been undertaken or
are about to be in order to limit the parking areas to
the lake’s immediate vicinity.
Level one: 2006-2007 regulations
- Informing visitors about the traffic regulations
around Lake Bohinj;
- Carrying out a study about the possibilities of
reducing traffic.
Level two: 2007-2013 regulations
- Guaranteeing that there is a sufficient
number of parking spaces beyond the lake’s
immediate vicinity;
- Establishing a public transport network;
- Granting those who live on the lakeside
priority parking.
e. Fishing
There is a specific regulation for fishing on
Lake Bohinj and its tributaries (Sava Bohinjka
and Mostnica). Certain points are provided in
detail here; for further information, you need
to contact the Bohinj fishing association
(http://www.bohinj.si/rd).
- Fishing is allowed on the lake and its tributaries
(Sava Bohinjka and Mostnica);
- In addition to annual licences for members of the
fishing association, it is also possible to pay for
tourist licences;
- Lake fishing is only allowed in relation to certain
species, and only using certain types of bait;
- Drag fishing is permitted from the shore or a boat;
- From the shore, you are only allowed to use a
single rod fitted with just one hook per lure;
- Members of the Lake Bohinj fishing association
can catch 5 kg of fish per day, consisting of
different species. For tourist licences, the quotas
are also limited and are printed on the licences;
- Catching frogs, molluscs, crayfish, or any other
aquatic animal is prohibited.
