process. This was the central theme of the Session<br />

‘Services <strong>2010</strong> and Beyond’ which was chaired by Mr<br />

M Lakshminarayan, Chief Executive Officer, Harman<br />

International Pvt Ltd. It included speakers like Mr<br />

Richard Rekhy, COO, Advisory Services, KPMG India, Mr<br />

Tathagat Varma, Senior Director-Business Operations,<br />

Yahoo India, Mr Rajashekhar Metgud, Executive Vice-<br />

Present-Business Process Improvement, Vodafone India<br />

and Mr. Matthew Barney, Director, Infosys Leadership<br />

Institute.<br />

In the session on ‘Deepening Customer Relationships:<br />

How to Make Customers a Central Part of your<br />

Business Model,’ Mr N Sivasailam, Managing Director,<br />

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., as the Session<br />

Chairman, dealt at length on issues relating to building<br />

customer relationships. Speakers included Mr Vikram<br />

Sud, Chief Operating Officer, Kotak Mahindra Bank,<br />

Mr Marcel Hungerbüehler, President, Bangalore<br />

International Airport Ltd, Mr Vishal Bali, CEO, Fortis<br />

Hospitals, Mr Venu Madhav, COO, Coffee Day and<br />

Mr Jayesh Chakravarthi, Sr Vice President & Country<br />

Head – IT, Fidelity Business Services India Pvt Ltd.<br />

Mr Jatin Sheth, India Services Partner Lead, Microsoft<br />

India, in the session on ‘Knowledge Management: Cloud<br />

Computing’, which was chaired by Mr N Krishnakumar,<br />

Managing Director & CEO, MindTree Ltd, introduced the<br />

audience to the developing concept of Cloud computing<br />

as a futuristic business tool.<br />

“Process Excellence is the key driver to make India<br />

a force to reckon” said Mr Gautam Maini, Managing<br />

Director, Maini Precision Products Pvt. Ltd, chairing the<br />

session on Process Excellence in Manufacturing, he<br />

said that every organization needs to have a properly<br />

mapped PE in place to excel in their business. Others<br />

who spoke included Mr S R Subramanian, CEO, L&T<br />

Komatsu, Mr C H Prahallad, Vice President –CQ &<br />

Operational Excellence, ABB Ltd and Mr Soumitra<br />

Bhattacharya, Bosch Ltd.<br />

“The culture of Quality in Public Services is still being<br />

defined” said Mr Gaurav Gupta, Managing Director,<br />

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, chairing<br />

the session on ‘Creating Cultures of Quality in Public<br />

Services’. The others who also spoke included Mr<br />

Ashoke Joshi, Chairman, Sreenivasan Services Trust,<br />

and Ms Shukla Bose, Founder & CEO, Parikrama<br />

Humanity Foundation.<br />

The Session ‘Next Gen: Integrating Quality and Social<br />

Responsibility’ was chaired by Mr S Viswanathan,<br />

Managing Director, John Fowler (India) Pvt. Ltd. where<br />

the discussions centered on how a seriously pursued<br />

CSR project could not only help bring the desired<br />

results through active campaign on a particular aspect,<br />

but in the process, improve the image and brand<br />

loyalty for the company. The speakers included Ms<br />

Lara Balsara from Madison Communication, Mr Ganesh<br />

Narayan, Joint Managing Director, C. Krishniah Chetty<br />

& Sons, and Mr Udai Pawar, Entrepreneur.<br />

Swami Nikhileswarananda, Head, Vadodara Centre of<br />

Ramakrishna Mission, addressed the Valedictory Session<br />

on ‘Harmonizing the Materialistic and Spiritual Worlds.’<br />

Mr K N Shenoy, Chairman, <strong>CII</strong> Institute of Quality said that<br />

though countries were measured through GDP growth,<br />

they should actually be measured on how well they had<br />

progressed on GNH, (Gross National Happiness) which<br />

he felt could be easily achieved.<br />

Mr Geoffrey Rose, Chief Executive Officer, Scoll Methods,<br />

UK, speaking on ‘Excellence in Project Management’ in<br />

the session ‘Manufacturing <strong>2010</strong> and Beyond: The<br />

Economic Context’ spoke on the various facets of the<br />

Excellence in Project Management in the UK’s Project in<br />

Control Environments (PRINCE) and highlighted the need<br />

for the provision of a Risk Budget. He also elaborated<br />

the various constituents of the PRINCE project which<br />

was based on the EFQM Model.<br />

Mr S Chandrasekhar, Vice Chairman, <strong>CII</strong> Karnataka,<br />

and Managing Director, Bhoruka Power, as the<br />

Chairman of the Session ‘HR Strategies: Where<br />

should Quality and HR meet to Create a World Class<br />

Organisation’ outlined the demographic advantage<br />

that India would experience by 2020 over the other<br />

industrial countries. He regretted lamented that<br />

despite the knowledge of the English language, the<br />

lack of innovation and corruption were deterrents<br />

to its encashment. Others who spoke included Ms<br />

Hamsanandhi Seshan, Delivery Excellence Leader,<br />

IBM India and Mr Sudheesh Venkatesh, Fr. HR Head,<br />

TESCO Hindustan Service Centre.<br />

Mr Harish Bijoor, Brand-Specialist & CEO, Harish Bijoor<br />

Consults Inc chairing the session on ‘Quality in all<br />

Walks of Life,’ drove home the point that Q.Next must<br />

align to the aspirations of Gen. Next. Other panelists<br />

included Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao, Member, Legislative<br />

Assembly, Karnataka, Ms Bindu Hari, Principal TISB,<br />

Rev Fr Thomas Mathew, Vice Chancellor, Christ<br />

University, Mr Ananda Rao, ITC Royal Gardenia and Mr<br />

Praveen Sood, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police<br />

(Traffic), Bangalore. Each of them narrated innovative<br />

improvements that they had brought about in their<br />

respective areas of work.<br />
