<strong>First</strong> overseas <strong>of</strong>fice will provide distributor and customer support from May 2011<br />

Today at Sea Asia, <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g> announced that it will open its first overseas <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>gapore to<br />

provide local support for Admiralty distributors and a rapidly‐grow<strong>in</strong>g customer base across Asia.<br />

The move will enable <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g> to work more closely with <strong>the</strong> world’s largest maritime market<br />

which has a vital role to play <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> shipp<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry’s successful transiti<strong>on</strong> to digital navigati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The number <strong>of</strong> vessels throughout Asia us<strong>in</strong>g electr<strong>on</strong>ic navigati<strong>on</strong> technology is ris<strong>in</strong>g quickly as<br />

shipp<strong>in</strong>g companies take advantage <strong>of</strong> both <strong>the</strong> improved safety benefits and operati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

efficiencies available. The <strong>in</strong>troducti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ECDIS Mandate from 2012 is expected to fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease demand.<br />

Michael Cauter, Deputy Chief Executive at <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g>, said “Today, Asia is <strong>the</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> shipp<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry: <strong>the</strong> regi<strong>on</strong> holds eight <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world’s ten busiest ports, manufactures <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> new<br />

commercial vessels, and provides more merchant crew than any o<strong>the</strong>r c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ent. It’s hugely<br />

important for <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g> to be <strong>in</strong> a positi<strong>on</strong> to easily engage with this vast and vibrant maritime<br />

community as <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry shifts to digital navigati<strong>on</strong>. By establish<strong>in</strong>g a base <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>gapore, Admiralty<br />

will be at <strong>the</strong> heart <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>versati<strong>on</strong>, and best placed to resp<strong>on</strong>d swiftly to <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> our<br />

grow<strong>in</strong>g number <strong>of</strong> customers across Asia.”<br />

The Admiralty team <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>gapore will work <strong>in</strong> close collaborati<strong>on</strong> with distributors across Asia to<br />

ensure <strong>the</strong>ir customers have access to Admiralty advice and expertise <strong>on</strong> digital navigati<strong>on</strong> strategy<br />

as well as local product support. In additi<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice provides a platform for <strong>on</strong>go<strong>in</strong>g engagement<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Asian maritime market, ensur<strong>in</strong>g that develop<strong>in</strong>g requirements from customers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

regi<strong>on</strong> become an <strong>in</strong>tegral part <strong>of</strong> <strong>future</strong> Admiralty plans for products, service and support.<br />

The operati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>gapore marks <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> a new phase <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g>’s l<strong>on</strong>g and successful<br />

history <strong>of</strong> collaborati<strong>on</strong> with <strong>the</strong> Asian maritime community <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> navigati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

products and services. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>UKHO</str<strong>on</strong>g> has worked closely with many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asian Hydrographic Offices<br />

over <strong>the</strong> last 30 years <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> first paper, <strong>the</strong>n digital charts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regi<strong>on</strong> to help<br />

improve <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> available to mar<strong>in</strong>ers.
