the time limit is 2 years<br />

• mandatory and optional conditions for the order<br />

s.55<br />

• communication <strong>of</strong> the order s.56<br />

- the order must be read to or by the YP<br />

s.56(1)(a)<br />

- the order must be explained to the YP and<br />

the YP must confirm that they understand it<br />

s.56(1)(b)<br />

- the court must make sure a copy <strong>of</strong> the order<br />

is given to the YP and to any parent who<br />

may attend the sentencing hearing s.56(1)(c)<br />

- the court may also have a copy <strong>of</strong> the order<br />

given to a parent who does not attend the<br />

sentencing hearing if the parent is taking an<br />

active interest in the proceedings s.56(2)<br />

This option requires that a YP attend a<br />

non-residential program approved by the provincial<br />

director, at specified times and on specified terms<br />

Before the order is made, the provincial director<br />

MUST determine that a program to enforce the<br />

order is available s.42(3)<br />

the time limit is 240 hours over<br />

a maximum period <strong>of</strong> 6 months<br />

• the court MUST be satisfied that the YP is a<br />

suitable candidate and that the order will not<br />

interfere with normal hours <strong>of</strong> work or education<br />

s.54(7)<br />

an intensive support and supervision program<br />

approved by the provincial director<br />

Before the order is made, the provincial director<br />

must determine that a program to enforce the order<br />

is available. s.42(3)<br />

This option is intended to provide more support<br />

and closer monitoring than a probation order.<br />

Ss.55 & 56 apply as with probation.<br />
