4.7 Northern Dune and Sand Spit<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> the walking paths across the<br />

dunes are choked with revegetation and<br />

are becoming impassable.<br />

The European Red Fox poses a<br />

potential threat to the local wildlife in<br />

<strong>Governor</strong> <strong>Phillip</strong> <strong>Park</strong>. Foxes have been<br />

identified as a key threatening process<br />

under the Threatened Species<br />

Conservation Act 1995.<br />

A six-week regional 1080 fox baiting<br />

program was implemented in May and<br />

September <strong>of</strong> 2000 and 2001. A fifth<br />

program was undertaken in September<br />

2002. The program involves extensive<br />

community consultation, workshops,<br />

media releases, installation <strong>of</strong> signs, and<br />

regular sand plot monitoring throughout<br />

the year.<br />
