4 Nationwide <strong>change</strong>s by a c<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>ate body<br />

New <strong>applications</strong> (a) A c<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>ate body with multiple registered land <strong>in</strong>terests may apply <strong>to</strong><br />

have a <strong>change</strong> <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>rection of its name rec<strong>or</strong>ded aga<strong>in</strong>st all <strong>or</strong> any<br />

relevant computer registers <strong>in</strong> a s<strong>in</strong>gle electronic application.<br />

(b)<br />

The previous paper-based process described below <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong> large-scale<br />

<strong>change</strong>s <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>rections of name should not be necessary, because s 19<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Land Transfer (Computer Registers and Electronic Lodgement)<br />

Amendment Act 2002 (CRELA) means it is no longer necessary <strong>to</strong><br />

rec<strong>or</strong>d <strong>the</strong> <strong>change</strong> <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>rection of name on paper copies of<br />

certificates of title, m<strong>or</strong>tgages, <strong>or</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r documents.<br />

process<br />

(a)<br />

Be<strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong>e s 19 of CRELA came <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> effect a paper-based process allowed<br />

a maj<strong>or</strong> company <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>ate body with many registered <strong>in</strong>terests<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> country <strong>to</strong> arrange <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong> large-scale <strong>change</strong>s <strong>or</strong><br />

c<strong>or</strong>rections of name <strong>to</strong> be rec<strong>or</strong>ded aga<strong>in</strong>st paper certificates of title,<br />

m<strong>or</strong>tgages and o<strong>the</strong>r documents progressively. This process typically<br />

<strong>in</strong>volved a:<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

first application <strong>in</strong> <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong>m 24 <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong> a specific registered <strong>in</strong>terest, <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong><br />

example, a m<strong>or</strong>tgage, and referr<strong>in</strong>g generally <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

m<strong>or</strong>tgages similarly affected by <strong>the</strong> <strong>change</strong> <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>rection of<br />

name, and<br />

certificate of notation lodged with subsequent transactions<br />

referr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> first application and conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a request <strong>to</strong> have<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>change</strong> <strong>or</strong> c<strong>or</strong>rection of name rec<strong>or</strong>ded on o<strong>the</strong>r affected<br />

m<strong>or</strong>tgages.<br />

(b)<br />

Where a 'first application' has already been registered us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

paper-based process, a certificate of notation may still be <strong>in</strong>cluded<br />

with, <strong>or</strong> held on file as supp<strong>or</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g evidence <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong>, subsequent<br />

transactions deal<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r affected <strong>in</strong>terests.<br />

An example of a suitable certificate of notation is conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> Appendix A.<br />
