Tearing down the House
that built SB 5
Two years ago in this
magazine, we warned
what would happen if
anti-union, anti-public employee
conservatives gained control of
the Ohio House. But little did
we know the extremes they
would go to in such a short
time to dismantle the rights
and lives of hard-working public
employees.
It’s plain and simple. If
we don’t support and elect
members of the General
Assembly who support
public employees, legislation
like Senate Bill 5 will happen
over and over again.
“The choice is clear! We
have to tear down the legislative
house that created SB 5 and
rebuild a General Assembly that
stands up for us and the services
we provide,” said Rocky Jolly,
OCSEA Governmental Affairs
Committee Chair.
This includes electing
OCSEA-endorsed House or
Senate incumbent candidates
who voted NO on SB 5 and
new candidates who support
collective bargaining 100
percent. All the endorsed candidates
oppose privatization.
OCSEA-endorsed candidates
include long-time friends
of labor like Senator Lou
Gentile, a legislator running in
Southeastern Ohio in Senate
District 30, and Rep. Connie
Pillich, a third-term candidate
from Montgomery. This also
includes new friends like
Charlie Daniels, SE Ohio, and
Heather Bishoff, Central Ohio,
who were invigorated by last
year’s battles at the Statehouse
and want to make sure collective
bargaining is safe in Ohio.
All have stood side-by-side
with public employees through
these fights and will continue to
fight for them once elected.
Will you stand with them
on Nov. 6?
Sen. Lou Gentile
30th Senate District
Rep. Connie Pillich
28th House District
Heather Bishoff
20th House District
Charlie Daniels
95th House District
Voted AGAINST SB 5 and
OPPOSES Privatization
“I led the fight against
SB 5 in Southeastern Ohio
and was very vocal about
my opposition. I will stand
alongside public employees
in their fight against extremist
politicians.”
Voted AGAINST SB 5 and
OPPOSES Privatization
“I strongly support the right
to collectively bargain…I was
in the Statehouse when Gov.
Kasich locked the people out.
I worked for hours to open
the doors…I stood with other
democrats for an injunction
that would allow protesters
into the Statehouse.”
SUPPORTS Collective
Bargaining and
OPPOSES Privatization
“I did not support SB 5.
I also did not support the
lack of prioritization placed
on education in the state
budget.”
SUPPORTS Collective
Bargaining and
OPPOSES Privatization
“I strongly oppose privatization
initiatives as we have
seen in Ohio’s prisons and
the current push to privatize
our Turnpike. They drain
funds out of Ohio’s economy
and cut wages and benefits
for working families.”
