in his fiftieth year as a<br />
conductor, music educator<br />
and administrator. He has<br />
enjoyed a distinguished<br />
career at every level of wind<br />
band performance, from<br />
beginning band programs<br />
through high school and<br />
university ensembles, to<br />
adult community bands.<br />
At present Floyd serves<br />
as State Director of <strong>Music</strong><br />
at the University of Texas,<br />
Austin. He also holds the<br />
post of <strong>Music</strong>al Director<br />
and Conductor of the<br />
Austin Symphonic Band,<br />
thought to be one of the<br />
premier adult concert<br />
bands in America.<br />
Floyd is a recognized<br />
authority on conducting,<br />
r e h e a r s i n g , b a n d<br />
repertoire, and music<br />
advocacy. As such, he<br />
has toured extensively<br />
throughout the United<br />
States, and internationally,<br />
as a clinician, adjudicator<br />
and conductor. In 2002<br />
he was the recipient of<br />
the prestigious Harding<br />
Award presented by the<br />
ASBDA in recognition of<br />
his significant and lasting<br />
contributions to the school<br />
band movement. The Texas<br />
Bandmasters Association<br />
named him Bandmaster<br />
of the Year in 2006, and<br />
in 2009 he was presented<br />
the TMEA Distinguished<br />
Service Award. In March<br />
of 2011 he was awarded<br />
the prestigious Midwest<br />
I n t e r n a t i o n a l C l i n i c<br />
Medal of Honor for his<br />
d i s t i n g u i s h e d a n d<br />
unique contributions to<br />
educational bands and<br />
orchestras.<br />
