M a r k L a y c o c k i s Associate Professor of Music at Wichita State University, where he is Director of Orchestras and Coordinator of Strings. WSU Symphony Orchestra appearances under his direction include t h e 2 0 0 8 I n t e r n a t i o n a l Festival of Youth Orchestras in Zaragoza, Spain, a May 2011 concert at Carnegie Hall, and many invited performances at KMEA In- Service Conferences. He has conducted All– State orchestras in six states, and clinic sessions for conferences in five states, as well as the ASTA National Conference. He earned a Doctor of Arts degree in orchestral c o n d u c t i n g f r o m t h e University of Northern Colorado. Patrick Freer Patrick K. Freer is Assoc. Professor of Choral Music Education at Georgia State University, in Atlanta, where he conducts the University Men’s Chorus. He holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and Teachers College, Columbia University. H e h a s c o n d u c t e d o r presented in thirty–four states and twelve countries. Dr. Freer is Academic Editor and Chair of the Editorial Board for Music Educators Journal, and has written over seventy articles in most of the field’s leading national
and international journals. Publications include Getting Started with Middle School Chorus (named Outstanding Academic Title by Choice) and the DVD series Success for Adolescent Singers. His 2012-13 publications include a chapter in “Perspectives on Males and Singing,” and articles in Choral Journal, Middle Grades Research Journal, Arts Education Policy Review. He was guest editor for two issues of Choral Journal, which focused on male singing from middle school through college. During her tenure as a teacher, she has presented workshops throughout the country. Bourne has conducted many region and all-state choruses, as well as judging secondary vocal solo and ensembles throughout the Northwest. Bourne received the BME degree from Murray State University, her MME from the University of Oklahoma and completed the EdD from Arizona State University. Patty is the author of two texts: Inside the Classroom: Teaching the Art with Heart, and Inside the Elementary C h o r u s : I n s t r u c t i o n a l Techniques for the Non-Select Children’s Choir, published by Lorenz of Dayton, OH. During the summer, Patty is active as a member of the staff for World Music Drumming. She currently is a full-time teacher, Coordinator of Music Education at Western Washington University in Bellingham, guest conductor, and clinician.
