• Utilize WFF <strong>and</strong> federal matching funds to acquire l<strong>and</strong><br />

Status<br />
• 9,397 additional acres were purchased for public usage during FY11.<br />
• Seek reauthorization legislation next legislative session.<br />
• Help create <strong>and</strong> implement program to promote reauthorization <strong>of</strong> Forever<br />
Wild program.<br />
• <strong>Alabama</strong> legislature approved legislation authorizing statewide<br />
referendum in November 2012 to reauthorize Forever Wild.<br />
RECOMMENDATION (Facilities)<br />
More efficiently <strong>and</strong> economically use <strong>of</strong>fice space by closing selected<br />
<strong>of</strong>fices, utilize vacant property in Montgomery to construct main <strong>of</strong>fice<br />
facility or purchase suitable <strong>of</strong>fice. Began efforts to transfer VHF radio<br />
repeater system to another state agency (Forestry) thereby effectively<br />
shutting down utilities <strong>and</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> 35 repeater sites. Estimated<br />
cost savings <strong>of</strong> $20K annually.<br />
Basis for Recommendation<br />
• Certain field <strong>of</strong>fices are underutilized by the public <strong>and</strong> staff.<br />
• Rental fees for main Montgomery <strong>of</strong>fice continue to rise. Currently<br />
the Division’s share <strong>of</strong> the approximate $1 million total annual rent is<br />
over $300,000.<br />
