Evaluate wildlife management area use, staffing <strong>and</strong> needs. Look for<br />

opportunities to utilize lower salaried technical staff to redirect higher<br />

salaried technical staff to other duties.<br />

Basis for Recommendation<br />

• Public use <strong>of</strong> WMAs has declined somewhat over time.<br />

• Currently the WMA system is operated by a combination <strong>of</strong> wildlife<br />

biologists, biologist aides or laborers. Time dem<strong>and</strong>s other than WMArelated<br />

are increasing on the biologists.<br />

• Most <strong>of</strong> the wildlife habitat in <strong>Alabama</strong> is on private l<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> requests<br />

for assistance are increasing.<br />
