Committee Report Father’s Day this year falls on Sunday 2nd September, so time to get planning as to what you might do. For many of you this may be your first father’s day as a family. Some lucky Grandfathers may be getting a Father’s Day gift of gorgeous photographs of their grandchildren thanks to the recent Fotoman fundraiser CAPC ran in late July. Thank you to all the volunteers and families who took part on the day and a BIG thank you to Cheryl our Events Coordinator for organising the photo shoot. For an interesting look at attitudes to Stay at Home Dads see the article on page 28. Not so many years ago fathers were not allowed to be present at the birth of their child. One of Parents Centres greatest achievements is the vital part our organisation played in attaining the widespread acceptance that fathers have the right to be at the birth of their baby and that they can play a vital part in supporting women in labour. We can all be thankful that fathers play the big role they now do in baby’s life, and that things have changed so much since our parents were children and even when we were children ourselves. Fathers today take on much more responsibility for caring for baby and share work around the house, all of which means our dads are very much worth celebrating!! In this issue we also publish the Central Auckland Parents Centre annual report to March 2012. What a busy year we’ve had! We look forward to having another great year and continuing to offer you our comprehensive range of childbirth and parenting classes and parent support services. If you would like to become involved with the amazing team of parents who volunteer their time to run CAPC‘s courses and services, have a look at the volunteer vacancies on page 12.
