Dear Second Grade Students: June 2012<br />
Welcome to second grade at Highland Ranch! For the morning of August 22 th , the first day of school,<br />
please make a special nametag to wear so we can get to know you!<br />
Here is a list we suggest for your “Back to School” shopping list. Since the majority of these supplies<br />
last only two to three months, please consider replenishing the supply for special occasions such as<br />
winter & spring holidays and birthdays. The PTA will provide a Highland Ranch folder for each student.<br />
2 boxes SHARPENED #2 pencils<br />
2 highlighters<br />
3 composition books 1 tub of non-chlorine wipes<br />
1 box of Crayola crayons (16-24 count) 6 pink pearl erasers<br />
1 pack Crayola colored pencils (12 count) 2 large boxes of tissues<br />
2 container white school glue (4-oz. size) One 12-inch ruler with metric measures<br />
1 set of Headphones 2 fine point Sharpie pens<br />
8 black dry-erase markers (Expo II)* 4 black vis-à-vis pens<br />
1 white binder (1”) 1 ream of card stock – white<br />
1 whiteboard eraser 2 reams of copy paper – white<br />
6 gluesticks 1 ream of bright colored copy paper –<br />
1 pair scissors, sharp point, child size, durable (one single color)<br />

2 boxes washable markers: 1 fine point & 1 wide point<br />

*PUSD has mandated that only alcohol-based markers, such as the Expo II, are safe for use on<br />
school campuses.<br />
All returning students must complete Continuing Student Registration every year. Please<br />
go to www.powayusd.com and look for the Continuing Student Registration link.<br />
Download and fill out all required documents. For your convenience, you may bring either<br />
New Student Enrollment or Continuing Student Registration (as applicable) any time after<br />
May 7 th between 8:30-2:30 each day. The office is open until June 19 th .

Writing – students should practice writing a complete sentence using proper capitalization and<br />
punctuation.<br />
Math – students should practice their addition and subtraction facts, 0-20. They should also practice<br />
telling time and counting money.<br />
Spelling – 50 First Grade No Excuse Words should be mastered before entering 2 nd Grade.
