Minutes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Assembly 2012<br />
discussion and consideration to be brought back to <strong>the</strong> next General<br />
Assembly.<br />
The Very Rev Pamela Tankersley moved a fur<strong>the</strong>r amendment, which was seconded<br />
and carried:<br />
That <strong>the</strong> General Assembly defer making any decisions on Notices <strong>of</strong><br />
Motion [12.020-12.025] but to refer <strong>the</strong> report “The Role <strong>of</strong> Moderator <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> General Assembly” back to <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> Assembly for reframing in<br />
light <strong>of</strong> Assembly discussion, prior to referring it to Presbyteries, Te Aka<br />
Puaho, Asian Council, Pacific Island Synod, parishes and congregations<br />
for fur<strong>the</strong>r discussion and consideration to be brought back to <strong>the</strong> next<br />
General Assembly.<br />
The motion, as amended was put as <strong>the</strong> substantive, and was carried.<br />
General Assembly mission and representation<br />
The Rev John Howell, Facilitation Group, presented feedback from dialogue groups.<br />
The Rev Martin Stewart was granted leave to withdraw notice <strong>of</strong> motion [12.031] and<br />
replace this with notices <strong>of</strong> motion [12.135-12.138].<br />
[12.031] [Withdrawn] That <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Order regulation that states that <strong>the</strong><br />
Moderator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Assembly remains in <strong>of</strong>fice until <strong>the</strong> next<br />
Assembly be redrafted to allow him/her to moderate more than one<br />
Assembly within his/her term.<br />
[12.135] [Replacement] That Chapter 14.14 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Order be repealed and<br />
replaced as follows: “14.14 at least every four years <strong>the</strong> <strong>Church</strong> must<br />
elect a Moderator designate in accordance with <strong>the</strong> procedure for<br />
nomination and election as set out in <strong>the</strong> supplementary provisions”.<br />
[12.136] [Replacement] That Chapter 14.15(1) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Order be repealed<br />
and replaced as follows: “14.15(1) The Moderator designate assumes<br />
<strong>of</strong>fice as Moderator at <strong>the</strong> General Assembly determined at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />
his or her election and retains <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice for up to four years pursuant to<br />
a term fixed at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> his or her election.”<br />
[12.137] [Replacement] That <strong>the</strong> changes to Chapters 14.14 and 14.15 be<br />
remitted for consideration in accordance with <strong>the</strong> special legislation<br />
provisions contained in Chapter 14.9 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Order.<br />
[12.138] [Replacement] That <strong>the</strong> changes to Chapters 14.14 and 14.15 be<br />
adopted ad interim.<br />
Mr Stewart moved, and it was seconded:<br />
[12.030] That, from 2014, General Assembly meets annually.<br />
There was debate. The motion was declared lost.<br />
Leave was granted to withdraw notices <strong>of</strong> motion [12.135-12.138].<br />
