Minutes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Assembly 2012<br />
<strong>Church</strong> within <strong>the</strong> context <strong>of</strong> a bicultural <strong>Church</strong>, with a view adopting a<br />
short statement on <strong>the</strong> nature and priorities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Church</strong> as an<br />
ethnically diverse community in and for its mission and ministry.<br />
[12.051] That <strong>the</strong> General Assembly acknowledges and encourages <strong>the</strong><br />
strategies for <strong>the</strong> advancement <strong>of</strong> Asian Ministries as proposed by <strong>the</strong><br />
Asian Council <strong>of</strong> Assembly, presbyteries and congregations to work with<br />
<strong>the</strong> Asian Council and <strong>the</strong> Asian Ministries Coordinator in fur<strong>the</strong>r defining<br />
<strong>the</strong>se developments.<br />
[12.052] That <strong>the</strong> General Assembly asks <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> Assembly to formulate a<br />
proposal which will provide a definition <strong>of</strong> and procedure for establishing<br />
“emerging congregations”, as described in <strong>the</strong> executive summary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Asian Council report and <strong>of</strong> seconding ministers as “partners in mission’<br />
from overseas churches.<br />
Christian World Service<br />
[12.070] That Assembly endorses <strong>the</strong> work and ministry <strong>of</strong> Christian World<br />
Service and recommends it to its parishes.<br />
Inter <strong>Church</strong> Bioethics Committee<br />
[12.071] That ministers and elders encourage people to access <strong>the</strong> Inter <strong>Church</strong><br />
Bioethics Council website and raise bioethical issues <strong>of</strong> concern with <strong>the</strong><br />
Council.<br />
Inter-Tertiary Chaplaincy Council (ITCC):<br />
[12.106] That Assembly affirms <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> ongoing support for tertiary<br />
chaplaincy in <strong>Aotearoa</strong> New Zealand through involvement in <strong>the</strong> Inter-<br />
Tertiary Chaplaincy Council (ITCC) and <strong>the</strong> regional ecumenical tertiary<br />
chaplaincy trust boards.<br />
Supplementary Provisions<br />
Mr Peter Whiteside, Book <strong>of</strong> Order Advisory Committee Convener, was granted leave<br />
to withdraw notice <strong>of</strong> motion [12.018] to be replaced by notice <strong>of</strong> motion [12.128] and to<br />
withdraw notice <strong>of</strong> motion [12.019] to be replaced by notice <strong>of</strong> motion [12.129]<br />
Mr Whiteside moved, it was seconded and agreed:<br />
[12.128] That <strong>the</strong> new Supplementary Provisions to <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Order, set out as<br />
items A-D, H and I in Assembly Papers schedule D2, as approved by <strong>the</strong><br />
Council <strong>of</strong> Assembly, be ratified by this General Assembly.<br />
Mr Whiteside moved, it was seconded and carried:<br />
[12.129] That <strong>the</strong> amendments to <strong>the</strong> Conditions <strong>of</strong> Service Manual set out as<br />
items E-G in Assembly Papers schedule D2, as approved by <strong>the</strong> Council<br />
<strong>of</strong> Assembly, be ratified by this General Assembly.<br />
Doctrine and Marriage<br />
The Rev Dr Margaret Mayman moved, and it was seconded:<br />
[12.133] That General Assembly, acknowledging <strong>the</strong> current position on marriage<br />
is set out in its previous statements on marriage (made in 1991 and<br />
2004), notes <strong>the</strong> diverse community <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Church</strong>, and <strong>the</strong> current<br />
public debate about same-gender marriage and <strong>the</strong> Marriage (Definition<br />
