STUDENT BOARD REPORT<br />
Student <strong>Board</strong> Representative Isaac Chang provided a brief report of the activities and events occurring<br />
at the district’s high schools.<br />
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT<br />
• Dr. Domene welcomed Dr. Michael Worley, Superintendent of the North Orange County<br />
Regional Occupational Program, who was in attendance.<br />
• The Superintendent indicated the district’s Employees of the Year would be recognized at the<br />
April 16, <strong>2013</strong> <strong>Board</strong> meeting.<br />
• The Superintendent shared that both Esperanza and <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> High Schools had visits from<br />
WASC accreditation committees this last week and that their comments had been very positive.<br />
He commended the principals, leadership teams, and staffs of the schools for their efforts.<br />
• Dr. Domene also indicated that El Dorado and <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> High Schools and <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong><br />
Middle School recently had California Distinguished School validation visits with, again,<br />
incredibly positive comments from committee members. The announcement of schools<br />
receiving this recognition is anticipated for mid-April.<br />
• The District anticipates launching its new website next week. The Superintendent thanked<br />
Public Information Officer Rosemary Gladden and her team for their work on the new website.<br />
• On a personal note, the Superintendent was proud to announce the birth of his granddaughter,<br />
Addie Drew.<br />

BOARD REPORT<br />
1. Mrs. Karin Freeman was pleased to have visited <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Middle School. She also participated<br />
in a recent meeting of the Education Committee for the <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Chamber of Commerce and<br />
mentioned in particular the upcoming golf tournament at the <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Country Club on April 15,<br />
<strong>2013</strong> which funds student scholarships. Mrs. Freeman shared that the North Orange County<br />
Regional Occupational Program is currently going through the WASC accreditation process with an<br />
anticipated visitation in April. She concluded her report by sharing information regarding the<br />
dedication ceremony she had attended relative to a permanent exhibit at the <strong>March</strong> Field Air<br />
Museum at <strong>March</strong> Air Force Base which includes World War II memorabilia donated by Hank<br />
Wedaa, former <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> City Councilmember, who served as a bombardier during the war.<br />
2. Mrs. Judi Carmona indicated she had attended Valadez Middle School’s annual community soccer<br />
event and spoke briefly regarding their energy challenge which is detailed on the school’s website.<br />
She also attended the Easter Egg-citement event at Kraemer Park as well as Bryant Ranch<br />
Elementary School’s production of the Wizard of Oz and commended the students for the<br />
marvelous job they did. Mrs. Carmona was also pleased to have attended the Hamilton/Jefferson<br />
Debate reenactment at the Nixon Presidential Library as well as the Southern California School<br />
Band and Orchestra Festival at Valencia High School, commenting that PYLUSD students were top<br />
notch. Mrs. Carmona shared briefly regarding an email she had received from Valadez Band<br />
Booster Parent Cathie Herrera and the support her company (BB&T Bank) provides to nonprofit<br />
organizations including, potentially, the performing arts program at Valadez.<br />
3. Mr. Eric Padget enjoyed attending the PTSA Creative Arts Awards event at Esperanza High School.<br />
He also shared briefly regarding the four A’s: Arts, Activities, Academics, Athletics, adding that the<br />
PYLUSD showcases each of these areas, addressing the needs of the whole child. He looks<br />
forward to watching his daughters compete at the Tri-Meet which features track teams from El<br />
Dorado, Esperanza, and El Modena High Schools.<br />
4. Mrs. Carrie Buck commented on the recent ShamRock ‘n Run 5K event sponsored by the REACH<br />
Foundation which was a great success. Mrs. Buck joined Mrs. Downey for a visit to Melrose<br />
Elementary School. She also visited Bryant Ranch Elementary School and <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Middle<br />
School as well as El Dorado High School for the California Distinguished School validation visit.<br />
The validation committee shared very good comments relative to the Digital Arts Academy and the<br />
school’s Senior Projects. In addition, Mrs. Buck attended the freshman parent tour event at El<br />
Dorado High School, open house at Rose Drive Elementary School, and the Superintendent’s<br />
Community Advisory Council meeting. She was also pleased to have attended the reenactment of<br />
the Hamilton/Jefferson Debate at the Nixon Presidential Library, expressing appreciation to the<br />
<strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Sunrise Rotary for the student transportation funding support they provided for this<br />
event.<br />
5. Mrs. Carol Downey enjoyed her visit to Melrose Elementary School with Mrs. Buck and was<br />
pleased to have attended the 35 th anniversary celebration at Tynes Elementary School.<br />
