called to order by Mrs. Carol Downey, President, at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the District
Educational Center, 1301 E. Orangethorpe Avenue, Placentia.

STUDENT BOARD REPORT
Student Board Representative Isaac Chang provided a brief report of the activities and events occurring
at the district’s high schools.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
• Dr. Domene welcomed Dr. Michael Worley, Superintendent of the North Orange County
Regional Occupational Program, who was in attendance.
• The Superintendent indicated the district’s Employees of the Year would be recognized at the
April 16, 2013 Board meeting.
• The Superintendent shared that both Esperanza and Yorba Linda High Schools had visits from
WASC accreditation committees this last week and that their comments had been very positive.
He commended the principals, leadership teams, and staffs of the schools for their efforts.
• Dr. Domene also indicated that El Dorado and Yorba Linda High Schools and Yorba Linda
Middle School recently had California Distinguished School validation visits with, again,
incredibly positive comments from committee members. The announcement of schools
receiving this recognition is anticipated for mid-April.
• The District anticipates launching its new website next week. The Superintendent thanked
Public Information Officer Rosemary Gladden and her team for their work on the new website.
• On a personal note, the Superintendent was proud to announce the birth of his granddaughter,
Addie Drew.

12. Approved Mabel Paine and Woodsboro elementary schools to participate in the Inside the
Outdoors School Program with the Orange County Department of Education.
13. Approved Melrose and Glenview elementary schools to participate in the Inside the Outdoors Field
Program with the Orange County Department of Education.
14. Approved Service Agreement #38823 with the Orange County Department of Education for the
Healthy for Life Program at Melrose Elementary School.

BOARD REPORT
1. Mrs. Karin Freeman was pleased to have visited Yorba Linda Middle School. She also participated
in a recent meeting of the Education Committee for the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce and
mentioned in particular the upcoming golf tournament at the Yorba Linda Country Club on April 15,
2013 which funds student scholarships. Mrs. Freeman shared that the North Orange County
Regional Occupational Program is currently going through the WASC accreditation process with an
anticipated visitation in April. She concluded her report by sharing information regarding the
dedication ceremony she had attended relative to a permanent exhibit at the March Field Air
Museum at March Air Force Base which includes World War II memorabilia donated by Hank
Wedaa, former Yorba Linda City Councilmember, who served as a bombardier during the war.
2. Mrs. Judi Carmona indicated she had attended Valadez Middle School’s annual community soccer
event and spoke briefly regarding their energy challenge which is detailed on the school’s website.
She also attended the Easter Egg-citement event at Kraemer Park as well as Bryant Ranch
Elementary School’s production of the Wizard of Oz and commended the students for the
marvelous job they did. Mrs. Carmona was also pleased to have attended the Hamilton/Jefferson
Debate reenactment at the Nixon Presidential Library as well as the Southern California School
Band and Orchestra Festival at Valencia High School, commenting that PYLUSD students were top
notch. Mrs. Carmona shared briefly regarding an email she had received from Valadez Band
Booster Parent Cathie Herrera and the support her company (BB&T Bank) provides to nonprofit
organizations including, potentially, the performing arts program at Valadez.
3. Mr. Eric Padget enjoyed attending the PTSA Creative Arts Awards event at Esperanza High School.
He also shared briefly regarding the four A’s: Arts, Activities, Academics, Athletics, adding that the
PYLUSD showcases each of these areas, addressing the needs of the whole child. He looks
forward to watching his daughters compete at the Tri-Meet which features track teams from El
Dorado, Esperanza, and El Modena High Schools.
4. Mrs. Carrie Buck commented on the recent ShamRock ‘n Run 5K event sponsored by the REACH
Foundation which was a great success. Mrs. Buck joined Mrs. Downey for a visit to Melrose
Elementary School. She also visited Bryant Ranch Elementary School and Yorba Linda Middle
School as well as El Dorado High School for the California Distinguished School validation visit.
The validation committee shared very good comments relative to the Digital Arts Academy and the
school’s Senior Projects. In addition, Mrs. Buck attended the freshman parent tour event at El
Dorado High School, open house at Rose Drive Elementary School, and the Superintendent’s
Community Advisory Council meeting. She was also pleased to have attended the reenactment of
the Hamilton/Jefferson Debate at the Nixon Presidential Library, expressing appreciation to the
Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary for the student transportation funding support they provided for this
event.
5. Mrs. Carol Downey enjoyed her visit to Melrose Elementary School with Mrs. Buck and was
pleased to have attended the 35 th anniversary celebration at Tynes Elementary School.
