The Superintendent shared that he had attended the California Distinguished Schools validation<br />
visit for <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Middle School and that the validation team had been very complimentary.<br />
Validation visits for El Dorado and <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> High Schools are scheduled for later in the<br />
month.<br />
Dr. Domene indicated that leadership team meetings relative to the Strategic Plan had been<br />
very productive and thanked the <strong>Board</strong> for their participation. Two sessions are planned in April<br />
for the stakeholder group.<br />
The Superintendent shared the following good news:<br />
o District middle school students will be attending the reenactment of the Thomas<br />
Jefferson/Alexander Hamilton debate at the Nixon Presidential Library and Birthplace on<br />
<strong>March</strong> 25 -26, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
o Over 850 middle and high school students participated in our district choral festival this<br />
past week.<br />
o Valencia High School’s Academic Decathlon and Science Olympiad team will be<br />
competing at the state level.<br />
The Superintendent spoke briefly regarding the District’s Capital Facilities and Funding Program<br />
and introduced Mr. Rick Guaderrama, Director of Maintenance and Facilities, who provided an<br />
overview of the District’s Capital Improvement Program.<br />
Mr. Adam Bauer, the District’s financial advisor from Fieldman, Rolapp, and Associates,<br />
provided a presentation on the District’s financing program.<br />

BOARD REPORT<br />
1. Mrs. Karin Freeman thanked everyone involved in the strategic planning process; it will certainly<br />
pay dividends for the district. Mrs. Freeman shared that she had been presented a proclamation on<br />
behalf of the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program (NOCROP) at <strong>Placentia</strong> City<br />
Hall in recognition of Career Technical Education (CTE) month and added that the District’s efforts<br />
in this regard had also been acknowledged. In addition, Mrs. Freeman attended the NOCROP’s<br />
Annual Community Advisory Breakfast and shared a few comments regarding NOCROP<br />
Superintendent Michael Worley’s presentation. Mrs. Freeman talked briefly regarding American<br />
Sign Language which is recognized as a foreign language and provided an informative brochure<br />
regarding the NOCROP course offering. Mrs. Freeman attended the <strong>Placentia</strong> State of the City<br />
luncheon and also appreciated the opportunity to meet with APLE President <strong>Linda</strong> Manion and a<br />
number of teachers. Mrs. Freeman visited Woodsboro Elementary School to participate in their<br />
Read Across America event and enjoyed the school’s presentation of Seussical Junior. With regard<br />
to the recent Principal for a Day event, Mrs. Freeman expressed appreciation for the positive<br />
comments from community participants, and on another note, indicated she was pleased to see the<br />
positive comments in Aztlan, Esperanza High School’s newspaper, regarding the HOSA program.<br />
Mrs. Freeman appreciated Dr. Domene’s presentation as the keynote speaker at the <strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong><br />
Chamber of Commerce breakfast and thanked Mrs. Rosemary Gladden for her efforts in<br />
coordinating the Principal for a Day event and providing support to Dr. Domene at the Chamber<br />
breakfast.<br />
2. Mrs. Judi Carmona was pleased to have attended the Reflections Showcase last month as well as<br />
the recent <strong>Placentia</strong> State of the City luncheon, the <strong>Placentia</strong> Library Author’s Luncheon, and the<br />
<strong>Yorba</strong> <strong>Linda</strong> Chamber of Commerce breakfast featuring Dr. Domene as the keynote speaker. She<br />
also enjoyed participating in the Read Across America event at Woodsboro Elementary School.<br />
Mrs. Carmona attended the Kraemer/Valadez/Valencia choral performances and went to the<br />
rehearsals for the Tuffree/El Dorado choral performances as her schedule would not permit her<br />
attendance at the evening performance. She was also pleased to join Dr. Domene and Mrs. Candy<br />
Plahy at the Courage to Create awards ceremony for student artwork and creative writing<br />
commemorating Holocaust events and victims at Chapman University. In response to an invitation<br />
from Bernardo <strong>Yorba</strong> Middle School teacher Christine Perez, Mrs. Carmona visited BYMS to learn<br />
more about their online student newspaper and commented on the student engagement in the<br />
journalism class and the professionalism of the newspaper. She applauds BYMS for this exciting<br />
new venture.<br />
3. Mr. Eric Padget expressed his pleasure at seeing the success of district students academically, in<br />
the arts, and in athletics. It is a clear indicator of the district’s outstanding programs and the<br />
dedication of staff. He also appreciated the efforts of community members who had taken the time<br />
to attend this evening’s <strong>Board</strong> meeting and share their concerns during Public Comment; the <strong>Board</strong><br />
does listen and follow up with staff. Mr. Padget thanked Dr. Domene for his leadership and the<br />
efforts of staff in establishing a new district strategic plan, indicated he was pleased to have met<br />
with APLE President <strong>Linda</strong> Manion and a number teachers to hear their perspective, and also<br />
attended band and jazz band performances, mentioning in particular the large number of students<br />
who participate in the performing arts. He is dedicated to keeping visual and performing arts<br />
programs going.

4. Mrs. Carrie Buck was pleased to have visited a number of schools including Rio Vista and Ruby<br />
Drive, mentioning in particular the stewardship campaign that is planned for <strong>March</strong> 23 by a local<br />
church to do some beautification work on those campuses, and suggested that a letter of<br />
appreciation be sent to the church. She enjoyed joining Mrs. Downey at a meeting with APLE<br />
President <strong>Linda</strong> Manion and a number of teachers. She also visited Brookhaven, Golden,<br />
Fairmont, and Rose Drive Elementary Schools. Mrs. Buck thoroughly enjoyed time getting to know<br />
principals who are new to the district and seeing the positive impact of modernization on our<br />
campuses. Mrs. Buck mentioned in particular Fairmont Elementary School’s Daily Café and Daily 5<br />
programs which have do with reading and writing. Mrs. Buck attended a Business Booster Club<br />
meeting at El Camino Real High School and indicated an alumnus had shared his success story<br />
with current students. She appreciated the opportunity to attend a recent Superintendent’s<br />
Community Advisory Council meeting, participated in Woodsboro Elementary School’s Read<br />
Across America event, attended instrumental music and choir concerts, and met with the student<br />
council for Glenview Elementary School. In addition, Mrs. Buck attended Valencia High School’s IB<br />
orientation and also had opportunity to visit a college prep school in Los Angeles; the difference<br />
was astounding. She is so appreciative of the opportunities our students are provided, the<br />
technology made available to students, and the caliber of programs and staff in the district. In<br />
conclusion, Mrs. Buck indicated she would be participating in the ShamRock ‘n Run 5K event<br />
sponsored by the REACH Foundation on Sunday, <strong>March</strong> 17, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
5. Mrs. Carol Downey enjoyed the opportunity to meet with APLE President <strong>Linda</strong> Manion and a<br />
number of teachers. She was also pleased to have attended the Reflections Showcase and<br />
commented on the level of talent exhibited by district students. Mrs. Downey attended the <strong>Yorba</strong><br />
<strong>Linda</strong> Chamber of Commerce breakfast and expressed appreciation for the Superintendent’s<br />
presentation at the event. She also attended several musical concerts and participated in<br />
Woodsboro Elementary School’s Read Across America event. In addition, Mrs. Downey shared<br />
that she had served as a waiter at <strong>Placentia</strong> Library’s recent Author’s Luncheon event featuring<br />
author Dean Koontz.<br />
