Jr. Golf
By Paul Johnson, PGA, Head Golf Professional
I hate to say it, but
school is right around the
corner. As the kids return
to school and get their
schedules adjusted back to
school schedule, the AS-
WING Junior Golf Program
at Lake Forest takes a
short recess in August. The
Program has seen wonderful
improvements in our
kids, their golf games and
their participation in other
sports. Our summer golf
camp series was a big hit
with the kids and a lot of
talent is rip to play golf. So far, the Program is excelling and the kids
are progressing quicker.
The Golf Swing Studio Junior Golf program, or ASWING, is a
year-round Long-Term Athletic Development program with an emphasis
in golf . The ASWING Junior Golf program is modeled on the
Titleist Performance Institute, or TPI, Junior Performance Center,
which is world's authority on youth golf health and fitness.
The Golf Swing Studio's Swing program is foremost a junior golf
school/academy curriculum. Our philosophy is simple: "The AS-
WING Junior Golf Program needs to develop fundamental movement
skills (FMS), establish functional movement patterns, develop
sports specific skills, teach golf-specific skills and create a love for the
game."
Many parents who watch our classes for the first time are often
surprised by how much time we spend playing games that are seemingly
unrelated to golf. Our method is by design. Children should be
well balanced, agile and coordinated. They should possess well-developed
kicking, striking, throwing and catching skills. They should
understand spatial and body awareness. And they should have all
of those characteristics before they specifically start learning to play
golf.
Come see why Coach Paul earned the 2008 Dixie Section Junior
Golf Leader of the Year and is one of three certified junior golf instructors
in the state. Your child will improve in golf and won’t know
it because of how much fun he/she is having doing it!
