CALL 626-9300 Articles must be turned in or e-mailed to the Editor or Office by the 10th of each month General Manager's Report ~ By Rob Wright, CCM, CAM ~ Thanksgiving is staring us right in eye and right after that December and the holidays. The Lake 9 will open in November and the Yacht Club will be serving Thanksgiving dinner. Both Tennis and Golf have seen an increase in membership and usage. Tennis is as active as it has ever been with more teams and more members than there have been in years. The Lake 9 reopens for the first time since May and is in incredible shape. The golf membership drive brought the number of annual members to it’s highest total in a long time and the E- blast coupons have pushed up usage. The discounts that are available to Rob Wright Lake Forest owners, that are not annual golf members, has increased the number of home owners playing the course. It is a great course and in fantastic shape. The pools closed October 31st, after a year of record usage by owners and their families. Remember that your pool card will still be good next year when we reactivate them on May 1st. The restaurants at the 19th Hole and the Yacht Club are both booming. Holiday party bookings are up and the College Game Day package at the Yacht Club makes it a busy place. The all you can eat Prime Rib nights are bringing in over a hundred owners every time. If there is anything we can do, remember we are always there to answer any questions. Meet Missy Hoover, Administrative Assistant Missy Hoover just joined the staff at Lake Forest Yacht and Country Club as the new Administrative Assistant in the main office. She grew up in Summerdale, Alabama and graduated from Foley High School in 2001. After graduation, she obtained a cheerleading scholarship in 2001 to Missouri Valley College where she studied business. She attends St. Margaret's of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley and has been a parish member for over 20 years. She loves to travel and learn about other cultures and Missy says, "My idea of a good time is spending time with my family and friends over good food and wine. It's Fall-time, so there's nothing better than barbequing outside and watching Auburn football!" She hopes she does not gain enemies from that Missy Hoover statement. She also says, "Good humor goes a long way with me." Missy says she is very blessed to be able to join such an amazing staff like the one here at Lake Forest and she feels right at home working in such a friendly, professionally-driven atmosphere. She looks forward to a long career with Lake Forest. Welcome Missy!
Meet Jennifer Ambrester LFPOA Food and Beverage Director With over ten years of both "Front and Back of House" hospitality knowledge, Jennifer hails from the Charleston, South Carolina campus of Johnson and Wales University. It was there that she received her Associate's in Culinary Arts and a Bachelors in Food Service/Hospitality Management. Jennifer says, "My journey in this profession has allowed me to travel throughout Europe with the soul purpose of catering to the Formal One Grand Prix to an event planner with the St. Louis Metropolitan Zoological Park." Most recently, she has held Jennifer Ambrester the position of Sous Chef for the University of South Alabama's Catering Department for over two years. She looks forward to bringing her knowledge and passion for the culinary arts to the Lake Forest Yacht and Country Club. "While I also look forward to getting to know each and every member and their guests, I am equally excited to not only meeting your expectations but exceeding them!," Jennifer says. In order for Mr. Johnson’s proposal to be implemented, the City Council of Daphne would have to approve and be willing to take the necessary steps. Of course, the City will not even initiate the first steps toward implementing this proposal unless there is a solid basis of citizen approval from Lake Forest residents since the proposal contains the possibility of an assessment and also obligates the City of Daphne to do millions of dollars of road work over the next few years. This proposal would require a commitment both from the City and from Lake Forest residents. Mr. Johnson made his proposal first to the Board of Directors of the Lake Forest Property Owners’ Association in order to get opinions on how this proposal might be received. The Board has placed a survey on its website so that residents can express their views. These will be passed on to the Department of Public Works and the City. The Board of Directors believe that their duties include publishing information on issues affecting Lake Forest residents. This proposal is such an issue. The Board believes that Lake Forest residents should be aware that this proposal has been made. Further, the residents need to know the details of the proposal. That is the reason the presentation in its entirety was placed on the website in the expectation that Lake Forest residents would view it and be informed. Some misinformation has been circulated that the potential assessment involved in the road proposal, if it were to be implemented, is somehow connected to association dues or assessments in Lake Forest. This is not true. Lake Forest Property Owners’ Association and its Board of Directors have no connections to the City. Association dues and assessments are totally separate from any taxes or assessments related to the City of Daphne. The Board provides a forum for this proposal and other items and issues that we believe of interest to our residents. Our goal is to provide more information and better avenues of communication. Therefore, we invite you to visit our website at lakeforestpoa.org. Take the survey and give us your opinion. Additionally, for more direct communication on activities in Lake Forest, please attend our board meetings at the 19th Hole. We look forward to seeing you there. Take the Road Survey The Lake Forest Board of Directors wants to hear from You! Please read the following carefully before completing the survey, your opinion is critical to help determine what recommendations are made regarding future roadway improvements within Lake Forest. The Daphne Public Works department and the city’s engineers have made a proposal to repair and enhance the roads within Lake Forest, the detailed plan is available on our website, www.Lakeforestpoa.org. The department of Public Works acknowledges that the roads and storm water management system are their responsibility but improvements and enhancements such as curbs, gutters and median renovations are not. This means that it is unlikely that the city will fund any further curb, gutter, or median renovation as has been done at the Lawson and North entrances without Lake Forest residents agreeing to an assessment to fund the improvements. The Public Works department has offered three options which are described on the website and represented in the linked survey. Again we ask that you read the options carefully and then click on the survey link and select the option you favor. Your input on the survey will help determine whether or not a recommendation is made to the city that the residents of Lake Forest support a program to enhance and improve the roadways.
