C. Infrastructure around site The target site, the district of Grand-Port, as any other district of Mauritius, has all the basic amenities of a living; on one hand water and electricity facilities. On the other hand, road network is well served and on the educational side, the district comprises of 22 primary schools and 3 Secondary schools. II. Socio-economic Characteristics of Site A. Site history When the first explorers discovered Mauritius in the 16th century, the whole of the island was covered with a luxuriant forest teeming with plant and animal life.
