MINDY ALDRIDGE writes: “In the last five yrs, I went through a painful divorce. However, I am happy to report that I have met a terrific guy and we are planning to be married in July. Steve is from Cambridge, MA, but has lived in the NYC area for most of his adult life. He has three boys, aged 15, 17, and 19. While my dtr, Katharine is a 7th grader at Agnes Irwin, I have been teaching middle school hist at Baldwin the last four yrs. I look forward to seeing everyone at reunion.” Thanks for fabulous news Mindy. MARION POW- ERS GIBSON writes with some very interesting news and an overall update. Marion has had quite the busy life, volunteering in a number of activities including as PTA Pres, Girls lacrosse coach, Girl Scout leader. Marion and husb Bob, who live in N.VA, have 4 children ranging from 15 to 6. Marion starting working for the Dept. of Homeland Security as an Appropriations Liaison, in Aug, working with the Congressional Committee on our Federal Budget. She reports there hasn’t been a dull moment between and work and family but she is still hoping to make it to reunion! Great to hear from you Marion. TAMMY BLANKFIELD continues her catering profession, something she’s been busy at for 25 yrs now, with a passion. (“Yum”). Tammy is pleased that living locally to Baldwin she continues to immensely enjoy running into her “girls”, more of whom she will see at reunion! She also wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts, their concerns, throughout this yr. For that, she’s forever grateful. Must have been a busy winter because I didn’t hear back from many of you. I’m counting on you for the summer issue! RACHEL GER- STENHABER STERN completed the NY Marathon in Nov and while walking around in her post-running daze, heard someone call her name. It was EMMA (formerly Barbara) GOLDMAN-SHER- MAN and her son, Eddie. They had a great time catching up and Rachel qualified for the Boston marathon! Emma wrote, “I am very sad to say that our son Israel is still not here yet from the Congo, and we don’t know when he will be here, but hopefully by the time you read this, he will have finally joined our family. He will be 4 in May. I am still married to Scott and homeschooling Eddie (7), and we still live in Manhattan.” LISSA MALLINKRODT BATTLE wrote, “Still loving life, work and play. Not too much different for me. I’m doing some volunteer work in the Phoenixville community. Income Taxes! Just assistance with low income families. It’s nice to help out. Ms. Hazel (was that our math teacher?) would be so proud!” And from MOLLY BRIGGS, “Nothing much new (as is the usual now). I did get to have a visit with my old friend SUSAN MOUSSEAU ‘84 with the whole family. Our kids played tennis and we sat around chit chatting. It was so nice to see her!” I was delighted to get an update from BETSY HYLAND LEE: “the girls (Gelsey, 15 and Louisa, 13) and I (now 45! Yikes!) have moved to Wallingford, PA, where they are both attending public school. The switch from homeschooling was a little rough, but both girls are adjusting well. The support for their hearing issues in this school district is Top Notch; I can’t be more thrilled! Both are on the honor Focus on you Suzannah Herring Carr ’82 “It can be hard to take some risk,” says Suzannah Herring Carr ’82, “but,” she advises, “be true to your heart.” After graduating from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Suzannah went to work for a bank in Philadelphia, first in commercial banking and then in the investment banking department. Much of her free time was spent doing volunteer and charitable work, and she soon learned of an opportunity to join the Peace Corps. It was not long before she joined the Peace Corps, began training, met her like-minded husband to be, and headed for Warsaw, Poland. Her work in Poland included advising the Solidarity movement and later joining the World Bank. When Suzannah and her husband, William, returned to Washington D.C., Suzannah focused on the financial division of the World Bank. She continues to work as an investment officer for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is the private sector of the World Bank. Created in 1956 with 182 member countries, the IFC was initiated by the global community to encourage private investment in developing countries. The goal of the IFC is to reduce poverty by strengthening the free market system. Suzannah serves on a team that manages a $10 billion portfolio of securities in about 400 banks in emerging countries. In addition to issuing loans, the IFC also buys shares in banks in countries allover the world, including China, Haiti, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Russia, Indonesia and Mexico. Suzannah enjoys the richness of day-to-day interactions with her colleagues, who reflect the nationalities of shareholders of the IFC, including Japanese, Haitian, Spanish, Dutch, Tanzanian and Ukrainian. Her traveling days ended with the birth of her two children, now ages nine and six. The Carrs live in the Washington D.C. suburb of Falls Church, VA, and Suzannah now manages her schedule to drop the children off at school and be home before dinner. Suzannah feels very strongly about Baldwin and says, “Baldwin girls can do so much. It is a blessing and a curse because it is so hard to choose. It is a lot easier if someone else tells you what to do, but you have to be careful that you choose your career.” She reminds everyone of the “importance of doing something you find value in. 22 C L A S S N OT E S roll (shameless braggart I am)...I am the new Outreach Coordinator at List Gallery at Swarthmore College, where my duties include assisting the Dir, visiting upcoming artists in their studios, and helping curate a show of Samuel Bak’s work in Nov 2010. Finally more time to start Pilates and yoga, both of which I love; no more time to ride... Also started reading with the Baldwin book club; we meet once a month in the Main Hall... What a nice way to stay in touch.” And big news for DAPHNE KLAUSNER, she is engaged to Ron Litman, planning a wedding in Oct. Congratulations!! A big congratulations to NANCY KAR- DON too! She wrote: “My definition of success has transformed a bit. Last yr I was named one of the top 100 women litigators in California. Success? Perhaps, however, I am now engaged to the most wonderful man in the world for me, Troy, and we are pregnant with a baby GIRL due in early July! Now that is success. Baby girl xx is joining her big brothers Steven (14) and Andrew (10). I’m continuing to do lots of yoga, meditation, and helping see that justice is being served for my clients.” As for me, LAURA FREUNDLICH, I am so happy that I can now send to Nancy all of Indi’s well-loved clothes! I have just finished a 100-hour Anusara Yoga Immersion and am toying with the idea of continuing on to Teacher Training so that I can then go into Yoga Therapeutics. Currently I am educating people about how to use therapeutic grade essential oils for their home health care, and offering that info along with everything else I know about alternative medicine. It’s fascinating and fun! We just got thru the chicken pox, Kai at 5 ½ and Indi at 3 ½. Of course we had to count: Kai had it mildly with 183 pox and Indi had it pretty badly with 389! Phew! Working from home has its advantages, but I’ve managed to maintain my school habits by choosing work that can’t really be done with children around - metalsmithing isn’t exactly safe for 5 yr olds - and that, therefore, keeps me up far too late at night. Apart from the sleep deprivation, though, I’m very happy!” KAREN ZEITLIN GRANT is looking forward to our Reunion and has loved keeping in touch with classmates via Facebook, especially following the runners and gearing up for the 5K at Reunion. She is busy working at the yarn store in Scarsdale, NY, Sticks and Strings, helping with her synagogue’s schools including chairing the search for a new Nursery School Dir and helping Sam and Ted (11) with school and extracurricular activities. LINDA KANIA GRAUPNER has also really enjoyed catching up with people through Facebook (and challenging their knowledge of 80s songs). “My husb Will and I are still living in Newtown Square with our two girls, Ella (4 1/2) and Kaitlyn (3). Being a mom is still the toughest and the most rewarding job out there. I still keep in touch with MAURA RUSSO and she visited this summer. We drove around to all the old haunts.
