The Four Point Main Street Approach TM<br />
• Organization: Builds consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals who have a<br />
stake in the revitalization process. Provides a forum for many different groups and individuals to work<br />
together for the shared goal <strong>of</strong> a vital city center.<br />
• Promotion: Showcases downtown as the center <strong>of</strong> activity through quality events and marketing, attracting<br />
people into the downtown area to shop, work and invest.<br />
• Design: Encourages the rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> existing buildings in order to create an attractive pedestrian<br />
friendly downtown center while paying attention to all physical attributes in and around downtown. Educates<br />
property owners and local building and fire <strong>of</strong>ficials about proper restoration techniques. Financial incentives<br />
may be used to spark this activity.<br />
• <strong>Economic</strong> Restructuring: Examines the existing business mix <strong>of</strong> downtown and works first to enhance the<br />
existing businesses through retention and expansion, then to expand that base through the recruitment <strong>of</strong><br />
new businesses to strengthen the city’s existing economic base.<br />
