With Profile, Dana-Farber
leads the way into an era of
Personalized Medicine
Launched to focus on the right drug, for the right patient, at the right
time, Dana-Farber’s ambitious Personalized Cancer Medicine Program
has made great strides.
As part of Dana-Farber’s Profile research project, a cutting-edge approach
to uncover effective personalized therapies, patients who choose to
participate have their tumor tissue screened for nearly 500 mutations
in 41 genes that are known to be linked to cancer. Since August 2011,
more than 10,200 adult patients have enrolled, allowing Dana-Farber
researchers to build a robust database of genomic information.
Researchers are also optimistic that Profile will be a successful tool in
helping discover even more about the genetic causes of cancers.
By compiling one of the world’s largest databases of cancer genetic
abnormalities, researchers aim to access an extensive body of
information to assist in developing treatments that will tailor therapies
to each patient based on their specific DNA profile, for more effective
treatments.
Leave a legacy that promises hope for cancer patients
Over the past 22 years, nearly 750
individuals have become members of
the Dana-Farber Society by establishing
a lasting legacy of support for Dana-
Farber Cancer Institute and its mission to
conquer cancer. By including a provision for Dana-Farber in their estate
plans, individuals support the Institute’s vision, dedication, and impact
on cancer research and compassionate patient care.
For more information on Dana-Farber’s planned giving opportunities
and the Dana-Farber Society, contact Alice Tobin Zaff, Director of Gift
Planning, at 617-632-3756 or visit Dana-Farber.org/giftplanning.
Support in the form of bequests, charitable gift annuities, retirement
plan assets, life insurance plans, gifts of real estate, and other gift
arrangements allows Dana-Farber to accomplish more for its patients
and their families while planning for the future. With so many lives
being affected by cancer each day, members’ planned gifts help the
Institute provide vital funding to seek new discoveries and treatments.
